Bike Rack on an FTO?

Post by HiRAEdd »

I'd like to be able to carry my bike on my FTO. It sure won't fit in the boot and I am not getting a tow hitch put on. Has anyone had success with putting bike racks on the back of an FTO?
I found one brand that looks like it could be promising.

Any thoughts from anyone?

why not get bike racks on your roof? they look ugly but you can always take them off easily. I have roof racks from thule that have a bike rack on them at home that im gonna sell, it needs an adaptor kit to fit other cars....

Hm. can you get roof racks that sit in the slot between the door and the roof?

Cos some of the ones I have seen require little mounting points to be glued on to the roof

I would expect some scratches on your boot using the strap ones. Been there researched that.

Here is a page from the FTO accessories catalogue that shows an optional bike rack for the FTO. So in short, it can be done.

Oh, and the part number for the bike rack is MZ535944.

But, I reckon you would be hard-pressed to find this anywhere, but it's worth a try if you're keen.

I was looking into this a couple of weeks ago...

I was looking at getting a towbar (hayman reese style) to which I was going to attach a bike rack.

In the end i jsut bought the bike rack and use my dads old ea ford to cart my bikes around!

I was considering the strap down type but they dont look too sturdy and I didnt want to damage the paintwork... and there was no way I was going to put a roof rack on!

i think i know the ones you mean here... they strap onto the boot... they have rubber mounts to protect your paint and they are pretty strong... i've used them in the past on other cars... they're a good temporary / removable solution.

I've found two shops that apparently stock the type of bike rack I think I'll need. I was wondering if there would be a kind soul out there willing to drive to one of these shops and "try one on" their FTO to see if it fits and give me some feedback on it?
The shops are of course in the middle of bumf$%k. Woy Woy has one and the other is at Tahmoor.
So is anyone able to help me out on this?
