External Transmission Filter
Hey there, new to FTOs - grabbed myself a '96 GR auto about a month back.
I've been doing a service, and am stepping through everything I need to change out slowly..
I read that the engine and trans filters and interchangeable? I have two K&N HP-1010s. Would this be fine for the transmission?
The one currently on the car seems to be shorter (I'd have to double check).
Thanks,
Moused

Re: External Transmission Filter
Or is it 441?
One's fuel filter, the other is oil and auto transmission.....
But yes oil and auto transmission are the same
Edit: Yeah, 411 is oil and auto, 441 is fuel.

Re: External Transmission Filter
Z411 fits but you shouldn't really use a engine filter on a trans. Trans filters have larger holes in the filter for better oil circulation. You can get them from sca for the same price as a z411 ($10). They are the same as a ce lancer. Bout 23 bucks for a genuine one from Mitsubishi.Daniel2019 wrote:Yeah they're the same. Re: External Transmission Filter
The official tans filter is a stubby filter... I actually put the correct one on the Smurf back in the day ...payaya wrote:Z411 fits but you shouldn't really use a engine filter on a trans. Re: External Transmission Filter
From what I've searched, that one is it.
Or Ryco Z637 from Supercheap
http://www.rycofilters.com.au/catalogue/part/part/Z637
I'm curious about the interchangeable with engine filter.. Is this a difference in model thing?
The engine filter definitely has a smaller circumference on mine.

Re: External Transmission Filter
Ryco/ repco Z411 filters for both the engine and auto transmission.
Your choice of engine oil brand - grade 10w40 is best for most applications.
Anything dextron III (or equivalent) rated for the transmission fluid.
I recently replaced the filter and transmission fluid in tweety.

Re: External Transmission Filter
Thanks for your help, I have just read many people saying you shouldn't use z411 for auto as its not right but others say it will work fine, might try get a ce lancer auto tranny one or a Z637 from super cheap as its smaller and bigger holes to suit right and if I cant ill go a z411 like many do

Re: External Transmission Filter
Yep... that'll do fine, there's not much difference in the hole size, if you wanna go nuts you can get the royal purple(though the actual filtration quality is debateable) filter that has 8 holes... but the z411 will do nicely as a substitute

Here you go barty: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... 5703#Cross
This seems to more closely match the oem filter.. shorter, and larger diameter.
- as well as Lancer CE as was mentioned before.Mitsubishi FTO 1994-00

Re: External Transmission Filter

Despite the diameter difference, the gaskets line up.. and same thread size.
The holes are slightly bigger on the trans one
