Yesterdays fun was with the steering rack.
I have never rebuilt a steering rack before, so I was a bit worried especially since I didn't have any of the special tools required.

Note:
You will see in the pics that a major leak was discovered when I removed the left hand boot.
You can see the crack/split in the outer seal teflon ring in a later pic
You will also notice that to remove the center seal I had to get quite inventive.

Todays work...

Stripped down all the old decomposed harness conduit out of the engine bay
Wrapped all the wiring with electrical tape and installed new conduit.

Attempted to change all the minor coolant/heater hoses, but came accross a problem.
If you look at the following pics you will notice that 2 of the hose connector pipes coming from the thermostat case/water jacket manifold are corroded.

Do you think I should...
1. Change out the housing?
2. Trim a bit off of the pipe and re-flare it?
3. Look for a used one in good nick?
4. Leave it and use as is?

I reckon try and get a brand new housing if you can as you've spent quite a bit of money on this already so why skimp on it now lol I reckon used ones would look the same

Thanks Super Sahin :D

I tried to order one earlier this week and the part is no longer available :cry:

I think I will rust convert the pipes and double clamp the new hoses on, if this doesn't work I will look at cutting off the pipes and tapping out the manifold to install brass hose-tail fittings.

The coolant water manifold is not available new at the moment so I had to keep and use the one I have.
I decided to rust convert and sand the pipes, then I installed the new hoses with double clamps.
I reckon it is a good compromise.

Todays work...
- Fix coolant metal pipes
- Install new minor coolant and heater hoses
- Install new coolant outlet housing
- Install new thermostat
- Install new coolant temp sensor
- Finish steering rack rebuild, including new tie rods, outer tie rods and boots.
- Install steering rack back into car
- Install sway bar back into car with new bushes and drop links.
