My FTO not starting

Post by Darith »

Hi

My car hasn't been starting (it starts sometimes), just won't tick over  . RAA guy said it could be the starter motor? has anyone have similar problems?

Please let me know

Yeah.

Starter motor is a very common thing. What kind of noises does the car make? Does it crank?

If it's the starter motor it should pretty much should be like a single tic when you turn the key...

Check your battery 1st but because it could be your battery, so measure the voltage when:

a) car is idling
b) > 30 minutes after stopping the car. (Or in the morning)

If it's the starter motor, I suggest you search the forums, cos this has been discussed heaps and heaps. In short, you will have to get the starter motor reconditioned...

Good Luck.

sometimes you wont even get the single tick!

try get under the car, give the starter motor a few taps with a hammer, and usually it kicks the starter motor back into life.

FTO Not Starting

Post by cww101049 »

 Hi i've just replaced my starter motor as like your car it sometimes started then others not. If its the starter motor it generally will just click and another sign is a continous buzzing noise that lasts about 5 seconds when turning the key. Hope this helps
