Re: The Suspension Thread

Dude that nut is like an inch long. Cuttin' the head off it aint gonna help, if fact it's gunna be a massive pain, because you still need to unscrew what's left of that nut to get the top mount off. The go is to cut the centre shaft of the shock, some where about halfway down it. Then put the lot in a vice & undo that now butchered to nut.

Re: The Suspension Thread
I cracked the plastic/delrin bearing while trying to press the poly bushes out of the rear control arms. Will this be too much of a problem?

Re: The Suspension Thread
Damn the BC BRs are bouncy as f**k
Had them at 20F 30R first thinking it would be stiff, they were bouncing around everywhere. Changed it to 5F 10R now front is still bit bouncy on uneven roads and rear goes just thud..

Bouncy or is that your fat bits slapping around with ride stiffness?

Re: The Suspension Thread
Lol, it is bouncy. Hard accelerating through a bumpy road makes the car feel bouncy and gonna lose control at every small bump. But the rear, if it falls on a bump it just goes thud..instead of a bounce.Bennoz wrote:Bouncy or is that your fat bits slapping around with ride stiffness?
It has improved since I made it harder than running it softer.
Maybe am feeling the bounce because of the new springs compared to the 20 year old springs I had? Also, I had progressive springs before. So smaller bumps didn't feel that much.

Re: The Suspension Thread
Are you talking about feeling all the bump on the road a lot easier. Cause I feel every imperfection on the road then the same coils
gotta get there one day :)

Re: The Suspension Thread
People might call me crazy but I've had Zero2R coilovers in my FTO for close to a decade.
Updated the springs from factory recommended settings when I ordered them.
Maybe I'm just used to the bumps now but never had much of a transition issue when I first put them on, enjoyed having more feedback with a stiffer setup.
Mind you, using a Vr as a base to work off, there isn't a lot of components I needed fill in.
I could add undercarriage bracing I guess, but I might do that after I put the car on a jig, it probably needs it

Re: The Suspension Thread
I have no problem with the stiffness, it's the bouncy part am concerned about. I'll take it up some mountains over the weekend to get a proper feel.
@sahin, how long do they take to set in?
@matt how the f**k would v1s be better when they are softer than br and am using close to the max stiffness setting right now.

The Suspension Thread
Bouncy as in it takes a while for the springs to settle after compression?
If so, need more (rebound) dampening on the shocks.
Are you setting the shocks to highest dampening rate then backing off to what you need?
Guessing F = front, R = rear. I'd go with more dampening at the front since our cars are forward weighted, there's more mass to arrest.
Edit: spelling and one more note:
Since you've only got one adjustment and can't adjust bump/ rebound independently.
Too bouncy, "stiffen" shocks, need to dampen more oscillating momentum.
Too 'twitchy' (car reacts too fast to steering inputs, road bumps) or too much understeer, soften them, weight transfer is happening too fast, springs need to absorb more.
There's other factors at suspension/tyres at play, but I'd start with that.

Re: The Suspension Thread
I think I will go with 'twitchy'.
For example, if I hard accelerate on a kind of bumpy road (not smooth as silk new highway), it bounced off every small bump, didn't have the 'car is accelerating flat straight' feel on the steering wheel.
I think it's too early to tell comprehensively. Let me take it out for a spin over the weekend.
Yes F: Front, R:Rear.
Bigger the number = softer. So am going hardest, then going towards softest every time am doing adjustments. So change front to around 10?

Re: The Suspension Thread
Twitchy could be caused by plenty of parameters. Let us know how go.
Check your tyre pressure before you go on your test drive though, make sure they're the same
