Road Trip

Post by FTO-Love-Affair »

So I'm planning a trip to Sydney next month from Dubbo, and stopping there for a night then heading out to the Gold Coast via plane. The trip there and back should end up to be just over 1,000km, and as it is the first long distance trip in the FTO that I will have done, I thought I should check whether there are any common things to look out for when doing long distance trips in FTO's. I intend on getting a service done on it before I go.

Do not do any work on the car at least a week or two before any long drive. After you do your service/work drive around for a week or so normally to make sure the 'work' didn't have any after effects.

Just give it a minor service and check tyre pressures and brakes.

Also keep a spare bottle of oil, a spare oil filter and a spare bottle of coolant in the car.
I fix cars.

LOL! :P

Well and yeah... put air in when the tyres are cold... and do not touch your air pressure through out the trip after that....unless there's a flat.

The only things I carry in my car during road trips are:
- Spare wheel/wheel changing tools
- Puncture repair kit with pressurized NO2 tubes
- A 'on your fuckin face' bright torch
- Bungee cords
- A proper petrol can full of fuel
- A phone with Telstra sim
- A paper map
- GPS
- Solar battery charger

Make sure you put plenty of Summer air in those tyres, you can't use the Winter air otherwise you'll have steering issues *true story*
There are two types of people on forums; those that give helpful advice, and the others

That's all I did in preperation and I didn't carry any of that stuff mentioned^ besides water (as I had a huge red water bottle).

If your crossing Aus and have to stop at dodgy rest stops to camp the night in the middle of nowhere, then I'd recommend a gun aswell
