Firstly, the way the sections on this forum have been setup, and who has access to them, is controlled by Steve and the committee. As I'm not part of the committee I don't have any control over this. But I do have some good news for any critics, and that is that once the club is officially launched, you have the ability to nominate yourself for the role of club president. If you get voted in by the members, you'll be able to determine the policy for all this, as well as doing all the other tasks that Steve does for us voluntarily.
Secondly, Boris and Kevin what guides are you refering to when you say "lots of guides" and "all the other ones"? Despite requests, neither of you have posted any links to them. I'm aware of people linking to guides from other websites and also being helpful and posting up snippets of information, but I don't recall any other DIY Guides being put together. Please help us by posting links to them so that we can integrate them into the DIY area. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Please post the link in the thread Kevin started:

FTO338 wrote:Hey Ruchi! Can you please explain why did you use these two words, REMARKS & IMPLYING
Because they seemed like the most appropriate words to use. These terms are fairly innocuous but if you've got a problem with them PM me so we can discuss it. In terms of refering to me as a 2 year old, this serves no purpose other than to sh*t stir and that sort of behaviour doesn't benefit this discussion or the club.
According to Dictionary.com:
Remarks = "To express briefly and casually as a comment"
Imply = "To express or indicate indirectly"

Generally if someone creates a guide or a thread with detailed instructions or information, normally the moderators of this forum mark the message as a sticky, to avoid the exact situation you're talking about.

huh?

To quote Pauline Hanson, "please explain" what you mean by this.
Boris wrote:My belief, is that the DIY section should be open to the public to post their guides, instead of being a lock down only for moderators... I don't understand why the DIY section is locked anyway, are you afraid of crap DIY articles?
1. Legal reasons
2. Branding reasons
3. Quality control and usability reasons
Gaven is on the right track when he talks about templates and PDF documents. Some templates have already been designed which will allow these guides to be released with the club branding and with a similar look and feel so they are easy to recognise, follow and understand. Likewise, as the club is a legal entity, anything it produces needs to be legally correct in terms of the information it offers and in terms of disclaimers. This can only be done when it is vetted by the club before going public.

I think what this site really needs is a seperate Tech area, where it would contain the FAQ. Fto Information, and DIY Guides.
This would collaborate all our knowledge of ftos in one easy to navigate section.
This is exactly what the TWG & DIY area is. It is a seperate area where the information from the forum and knowledge of our members is centralised so it is easy to find. Any questions or comments posted in this section would be answered or integrated into the FAQ or guide. The message would then be deleted so that this section remains uncluttered, leaving just the updated FAQ or guide behind. If people wanted to discuss these things at length they would do so in the other areas of the forum as they do now.
Personally I think the biggest reason people don't contribute guides is because other clubs already have a lot of these guides in place and because of all the extra work involved in putting a guide together vs. simply providing a snippet of information. But hopefully we can overcome some of these issues and get more information flowing.
PHEW! It's been a while since I've written one that long!
