Anyone had a windscreen replaced recently?

Post by Rob Furniss »

Someone has put a concrete block through my windscreen when it was parked up last weekend up in Hedland and all the windscreen repairers are stuggling to source one, even Mitsi said they can't get them anymore.

If anyone has had theirs replaced recently and happens to know where it was sourced from could you please let me know as that may be a big help.

Cheers,

Rob

I had to get my windscreen replaced a few weeks ago as it had a small crack and couldn't pass RWC.

It cost me $260 all up, they just got a replacement windscreen from a wreckers, so I'd say that would be the best way to go.

Just had a call back from the windscreen place saying it was supposed to have arrived by now but it's vanished, have to wait for one to come in from China some time next week and then if that actually comes in get it shipped up from Perth to Hedland so end of next week!
I've been quoted $480 minimum

Did I state there were "heaps of ftos"? No.

I was just pointing out that's the best place to find them, because in Melbourne at least there are a few available.

You guys are going to hate me... I got mine replaced for £70 / $125 within 48hrs. There is a small stock pile of brand new screens hiding in Germany somewhere...

One scrapper I saw had a heated front screen - Mitsubishi doesn't have stock of these anywhere, so that would be a b1tch to replace!

Rob ring up this place:
Mitsubie Auto Recyclers
7 Finance Pl, Malaga WA 6090 ‎
(08) 9209 3900 ‎

I got mine back in feb from them, when a tree branch fell through my rear windscreen.
Cost was $350/- and the auto glazier's service was around $150(I think).

Cheers

Ah, darn, just saw that you are still in Hedland.

You might be better off trying your luck with Dwayne, using Pack and Send's service(They will pack it professionally, afaik), and hope it reaches Hedland intact.

One company up here say they've sourced one in Perth at a windscreen repairers (they won't say who) but as it's not their supplier they are charging them top dollar for it, going to cost me $900+ if I go with them.
I've had the car towed back to my property now as it was in a dodgy area so at least it's safe, just going to take some time to sort it.

For $900 you could almost buy a half cut.

Pretty sure I have at least one up in the rafters in the shed. I would sold for $75, but noway toprotect it for a trip to WA. Might be worth cutting the one out of the ute before it disappears as well if they are getting that hard to source. Was just going to toss it out with the shell!

Fark didn't realize they were getting rare.....better stock up!

Then again I heard an NSX replacement windscreen was $7K so there's worse scenarios.

I was so tempted to buy an old one and rebuild/restore it but when I googled around for bits and pieces (eg. engine) it was just insanely expensive. Would be an awesome project and the alternative is that instead of buying OEM replacement parts perhaps fabrication is another option. But once again depends on the $$$

whats wrong with a GTO? sure its not mid engine but it looks similar and has AWD, it also costs a fraction of a NSX.
