To sell the FTO or not?

Post by Ftowner »

Hey guys, just wondering what you think of this, seeing as its going through my mind most days when i think about my car!

At first i wanted to turbo my Fto, but then realised all the work and costs into doing that.
So i thought, ill just sell it and get a GTO! But it seems they are too hard to maintain.

So in 5 months i will have my full licence. And the temptation to get a Turbo...IS HUGE!
I was looking at Gto's and Supra's for ages. But then i came to a decision that a R34 Gt-t
Would be a much better buy!

I do enjoy driving my Fto even though it is without the Mivec :( Im just wondering if you guys can spark the FTO fire within me to keep it!
Ive been so tempted to spend money on it, but i keep thinking it will be a waste if im just going to sell it to buy another car.

Any ideas? What are you guys thinking that are on your P's? Or what made you keep your Fto after getting your Full Licence?

I was thinking the same thing! Have my wonderful Jap Turbo car for the weekends, and the Fto during the week! Wouldn't get bored of either, since they would both be very nice to drive. It's a little daunting thinking about the money you would spend on maintaining 2 cars though!

Keep it!
If you don't want to turbo it, maybe do a Mivec swap, and as you said maybe a turbo car for the weekends..

All us enthusiasts in the same boat. I reckon I'll be keeping the FTO for a long while yet, but yeah, the temptation to go for newer cars with more easily attainable power is certainly there. I'd be pretty keen on a MPS6 or a Toyota Chaser. Something practical and sleeper-ish. But definitely don't have the funds to do it for a long while yet!

The thing I would say to you is that while any number of other cars will give you the power you desire, many of them will not give you the handling, or if they do, it wont feel the same as the FTO does. We have had quite a few members that have sold their FTO and gone out and bought turbos or drift cars. Anumber of them have then sold these after having gone down this path and bought another FTO.

I have a bit of personal experience here. Bought myself a Legnum as a family car a while back. The Legnum is a twin turbo, 4WD and has all the fancy suspension bits the EVO does. And to be fair, it is a good car, but it isnt an FTO. I found the steering to be disconnected from the car (no feeling) and in the end, my FTO easily out handled it (and the only non stock suspension mod I have is Apexi Lowering springs). Also, after the engine mods ive done, my FTO also out accelerated it. Was a bit disappointed, but to be fair, it wasnt the Legnum's fault. Its just a different car with different strengths and weaknesses. A few mods to it wouldhave helped. Now ive driven quite a few cars in my time, but ive yet to find anything that puts a smile on my face like driving my FTO. Dont underestimate this as you wont necessarily find it in one of the other cars you are looking at. Having said that, you may take one of them for a drive and love it. It tends to be a bit of a personal thing.

Loving the replys! Definitely making it a little easier i guess haha.

Mayby i will have to keep the FTO, just in case i lose that feeling then i can just sell the
other car and i wont have to worry about buying another Fto!

There really is no reason to sell it. It has only done 101000 kms, Last month did the 100k service,
Which cost me $1200 but at least it makes me feel secure in the car again!

I just really wanted a 6second car or faster, im sure i could probably mod the Fto to go quite fast,
but im guessing it would be an expensive adventure! Turbos just seem so much easier to get power out of them,
    compared to NA tuning.

I was also looking at 350z's and 350gts. Big powerful V6's, aparently they are really fun to drive aswell!

Oh well, ill keep you updated if i do end up buying something else, and ill sell my Fto to 1 of you guys to keep it in the club!

Your mate must be a terrible driver then, because there's no way an FTO will beat an R34 GT-T unless it was turbocharged. But one of the main reasons people get the R34 is it can be easily modified to produce more power, whereas the FTO is extremely limiting unless you go for an engine swap (and then it doesn't make it worthwhile).
