Remote control knob for amplifier
I have an earthquake ph2000 amplifier and my remote volume control knob has stopped working... Apparently I need a new one but I can't seem to find anywhere to buy one/ what exactly I even need. Any ideas? It's basically the same as this http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_380 ... 0W-D1.html

Typically the internals of those were a simply potentiometer.
I never really saw the point of these, but anyway.
Given yours is dead, crack it open and see what's within.
If it's a basic bread board with a pot, then it can be recreated very easily.

The point is so you can turn the bass down on songs that have way over the top bass. Sounds like an alright idea I'll have a look.

But yeah, crack it open, post a pic and we can see if we can help further.

Re: Remote control knob for amplifier
okay so I took it out and opened it and it's basically just a 10k potentiometer. It connects to the amplifier with a wire which is the same as telephone wire but more square. I found the same type of wire from an old telephone (the wire that connects the phone to the base part) and tried using that to connect it to the apparently busted controller. The amplifier plays sound but just at full volume (before when I had the remote control enabled and connected to the wires in my car it would play no sound). So I'm not really sure whether the problem is the wire, the box or both yet. I am going to try and make the same circuit and test it.

I guess it depends on your setup...Astron_Boy wrote: Sorry, I knew the function, just didnt personally see the point (personal factor)

Yeah, generic RJ10 cable and a pot as you said.
Simple stuff.
The box acts as a bypass, so if you were to bridge the wires (should only be 2) then you would have full volume.
The pot acts as the attenuator between to give you control of the output.
The pot has gone open circuit, so once you bridge the new pot in it will solve the problem.

I was a bit worried that the cable from my boot to the front of the car was damaged because there was different outcomes from the different cables but I figured out the test cable I used was a crossover cable which would explain that haha... I'm tossing up whether to get replacement parts or just buy a different one made for another amplifier off ebay.

Re: Remote control knob for amplifier
should realistically be a universal part.
Why not just put a new potentiometer in?

Re: Remote control knob for amplifier
I'm pretty sure the socket is broken and/or the potentiometer so I guess I'd have to get both (Jaycar doesn't sell the right socket as far as I could see on the website) plus there is no knob on the one I have currently as well which is annoying so I might as well just buy a new one.Astron_Boy wrote:should realistically be a universal part.
