Newbie to FTO and this forum..

Hello all, my name is rooster (nic)

I have recently acquired a '98 FTO GPX that needs some lovin...

My lovely wife bought it for my upcoming b'day.

It's fairly straight with a few dodgy repairs which I plan to strip right back and start fresh.

My issue is while the car itself was quite cheap $1000.... The engine drives ok but I think it was driven like it was stolen for a long time, seems to have a knock in bottom end, losing coolant (but no puddles) and while there is no evidence on the dipstick there is a little bit of brown sludge on 710 cap (lol little blonde joke sorry)

I am researching alternatives to either rebuild/repair existing mivec and try to boost it, Or go for a conversion to something like a 6a13tt...

Any suggestions will be fantastic.

Hey mate,

Having done the 6A13 conversion, here's my advice.

A place you can get a low km engine for about $600 bucks:

If I was to still try and shoehorn an 6a13tt in to her, is there any issues I need to address with the auto that is still in it???

Of all the guys around that have done it with the auto box, they've ended up putting a manual in after lots of frigging around with the auto.

The torque converters just aren't up to it. And having said that, the manuals aren't really either. I have to rebuild my box annually!

But yeah, food for thought... Can't wait to sink my teeth into it, but at the same time will go slow and steady.

Wife and I own a kids playland... And she wants to modify the front and rear bars to look like Lightning McQueen... I think I need to find a damn good fiberglasser

Yeah.. Mine won't be anywhere near as good as that but it's for the kids... Like I was saying that my wife and I own a playland... Just having something like that parked out the front of the shop will be pretty cool... Kids will try and yank mums arm off to go look and hopefully then go inside to play on our equipment...
