fuel gauge misread

So ive learnt something tonight...

since i took ownership of tweety i havnt 'filled her up' ive just been drip feeding it $20 at a time and its been hitting half a tank and dropping to 1/4 tank stupidly quickly.

i figured the O² sensor was bung but tonight i thought id splash out.

put $50 in (from just under 1/4 tank) it stopped at $46 dollars and i tried everything to get the full 50 in, but i didnt get any higher than $47...
IT WAS FULL! (overflowing full)

took off and the gauge only read a smidge over 3/4...

what could it be? the sensor in the tank or the cluster gauge?

anyone with relevant experience would be appreciated

Believe it or not it happened to me and was the cluster reading too low because someone pulled the needles off...
swap out the cluster and recheck and if it's right then you owe me $20

i thought it might be the needle, but it doesnt go stupidly low when the car is off... and none of the other needles have an issue... im 90% sure this cluster has never been removed

thats why i was thinking it might be the sensor in the tank

I sort of have the same thing happen. Above about half it'll see to be fine, then it'll drop to 1/4. But many times when it gets to that and I fill up15-20 litres, the needle will go to 3/4.

No suggestions, but I'll hang around for the solution.

Yeah the level reader could be rusty. Not all that hard to get out & check apart from the fuel line (undo it from underneath first)

I've probably got a spare level reader here.

Someone may have swapped your cluster out! and that whole video and low kms story was a total scam!

Come to think about it there's a sticker on the cam cover that says the cam belt was done at 225000 kms I just figured it was a typo and it was done at 25 thou

The Fto tank is 60 litres no 50. 20 bucks will get the gauge to a quarter max.
