Re: BJK's '95 GPX
The reason they need to be flared Toblerone, is because the wheels can't legally be sticking out of the guards.

What I mean is, isn't there a method of flaring guards that only involves modifying the existing guards, and not attaching overs? It would have its limitations of how far it extends, but I don't need to to go that far.

Na need to add the flares. You can get them blended to make them less obvious, but no way of getting around it otherwisebjk wrote:What I mean is, isn't there a method of flaring guards that only involves modifying the existing guards, and not attaching overs? As in, doesn't exist, or can't be done??
Gonna have to do some googling at home.

As in your existing guards don't have enough material in them to cover the necessary parts, thus you will have to add some flares to cover enough area of the tyres, unless you fancy a nice big defect noticebjk wrote:As in, doesn't exist, or can't be done??

Hmm. I will have to see what it looks like with all the tyres mounted, but I think it could be done provided someone in Adelaide has the expertise/tools.

Nope could always cut and shut but as kiZ says not enough to pump out. Maybe mill few mill off back space of rim to bring in slightly but doubt would be enough

I'll put it in an analogy you might be able to understand; Ever tried spreading your piece of toast with a bit of butter, the more you spread the thinner the butter gets over a larger area.destinationtoby wrote:kiz wrote:As in your existing guards don't have enough material in them to cover the necessary parts, bjk wrote:As in, doesn't exist, or can't be done??

Not saying it is guaranteed to be an issue, but even if the guards roll out, they will be fairly thin

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
The method I'm thinking is less of spreading and more like bending. The opposite of guard rolling, basically, pushing it out instead of in. Like a hinge, there's not much less of the guard, it's just moving in another direction.

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
LOL @ spreading... I'd think it more as stretching if anything.... But yeah as above, I thought it was just a matter of making room. How much, well I suppose we will find out soon enough
.. I to roll mine out as far possible and then fit it with tyre using spacers.

I'd just drive without fenders. They're overrated anywaybjk wrote:The method I'm thinking is less of spreading and more like bending. The opposite of guard rolling, basically, pushing it out instead of in. Like a hinge, there's not much less of the guard, it's just moving in another direction.

With just the guard roller I'm assuming? I'm thinking I might get the guy who rolls my guards to do similar... one place has quoted me in the range of ~$2800. Top quality work, no doubt, but yeesh.silverGPX wrote:Maybe even 2cm

with a guard roller, would never do the backs though, fronts are way more thin and malleable.bjk wrote:silverGPX wrote:I pumped my front guards myself probably about 1cmWith just the guard roller I'm assuming? What i did was i rolled the lip flush back with the guard then put the roller up till it was almost straight and heated the f**k out of the guard and pushed it out as hard as i could and rolled it back and forward. was quite difficult.
By the way this pulls it in a little bit at the door not much but a little bit.

Ah, duly noted. Hmm. Might have a call around to some other places. But still yet to see what it looks like with tyres yet.
In other news, headlights and indicators arrived from dstocks today. Left is near perfect, right just needs a bit of a polish. Also went down to Repco and picked up some highbeam bulbs. %20 off with the RAA card.
One step closer to getting everything fixed. Now just waiting on the bar to arrive at the shop.
