Worthwhile buying a press?
Super cheap sells the 3000lb workshop press for $150.
Would anyone recommend buying this and doing it myself over taking the suspension apart myself and getting a shop to press them in and out?
I'm in no rush to change the bushes, but they will need doing soon.

It's a bit of a fiddly job if you're not used to it, but it is well worth it.
For $150, like Bennoz, you could press one out.

Great investment if you do enough work to warrant one

If he was in your state, you'd be telling him to get it.vipfto wrote:Great investment if you do enough work to warrant one

Re: Worthwhile buying a press?
The only thing I find annoying about them is the size. They're physically too small to get large components into. I have to come up with all sorts of fancy jigs to get everything done that I need.

So would it be sufficient for all suspension bushes?

They're very useful tools, not just for suspension.

^ Mankind has been asking itself this question since the start of time....I think you will even be able to find this question in the Holy Bible.

Re: Worthwhile buying a press?
Worthwhile? Maybe not sometimes, but there will come a time you will need one and if you don't you would be thinking why the hell don't I have them!!
Well I manage to bash out the spherical bearing's (sort of like a bush) on the rear end but getting them in was a different story.
If you are not planning on taking the items to be pressed out, I highly don't recommend trying to get pressed items out with a big hammer etc as it's a pain.
I've broken two vices trying to press in sh*t and it's not pretty when they break under load.
I got a 12 tonne one from Repco, its a taller unit than the sca one.

Re: Worthwhile buying a press?
I dunno about 6 tonnes though, I was struggling with 12 tonnes pressing out the side mounts today. I was waiting for the big bang but fortunately didn't come.

Re: Worthwhile buying a press?
Who presses them out? That a job for a drill bit & reciprocating saw. Bastards just fall out, then press new ones in.
