Why so much variation in quotes?
I've been quoted $750 including hydraulic tensioner, $640 excluding.
One place just quoted me $1398

I can get a kit for $210 so something doesn't add up, thinking of just doing it myself.

Also getting intermittent overfuelling issues and suspecting either vac pipe (I hope so i've just replaced vac pipes to Map sensor and FPR so fingers crossed that's it) or coolant temp sensor for ecu.
Looks like if I've still got this issue i'm going to have to get from camskill for £14 as although my local Mitsi have one on the shelf they want $156 for it!

As for the timing belt, yeah, labor cost is BS.

More a case for me, if bad fuel mileage, then replace it.

But yeah, in getting used to EFI cars, the coolant temperature sensor could also be at play.
Seems the common issue goes with the o2 sensor.

I replaced mine recently, a bit better, but still not like it used to be.
I think mine is coolant sensor related as it's the last thing... I believe.

I got my timing belt kit from Camskill for about $120 (+ postage)

Water pump I got from Super Cheap Auto which was about $68.

Main reason for wanting to do the cambelt is I have oil dripping on the exhaust making a not so nice burning smell, pretty sure it's coming from the crankshaft oil seal.
Well that and i'm not sure exactly when it was last done, previous owner said it had been done a few 1000km's before I bought it but no paper work. (I've done about 5000km's, car is only on 140000)

labour cost is because its a bitch, last couple I done took just over 6 hrs remebering to do all pump and seals etc have to remove radiator a/c compressor p/s pump and thats just to get the dam thing let alone the actual job, parts will cost round the $300 mark usually depending if changing hydrolic tensioner too which costs more

I need to get a coolant temp sensor too. I'm having starting issues and crap fuel consumption. Should we chip and try save a bit on postage?

Makes job much much easier dont have to disconnect ac just remove so can easily remove ps pump bracket making it easy to get to right water pump bolts and more room. Dont have if just doing belt without pump though

i seem to remember removing the a/c compressor when we rebuilt my old gpx motor...

Yip done bout 9 on ftos now. Magnas and other fwd cars generaly dont have to remove as much but they are little roomier under bonnet. And usually single cam per head v6. Toyota can be awesome with water pump running separate and dont need to remove timing belt

To replace the waterpump on the commodore it's 5 mins and $32 but it's a bit dear for a commodore owner so they usually get a second hand one for $4
