Cig Lighter not working

Post by Raven »

My Ciggerette Lighter and the 2 little blue bulbs next to it are not working and i cant figure out why.

i know its not my fuses, i have changed them all, and i have checked all the wirering as far as i can see into the center console. i also know its not the lighter itself because i have 2 of the surrond panels and it dont work on either.

any ideas what the problem might be?

Try using a test light, to see if there is power going through the wires to the cigarette lighter. If there is power, it would mean your lighter is cactus, and you may need to change the whole cylinder. if there is no power, you will need to source where the wire runs to.

The lights probably dont work, becuase the LED's are blown. Mine are blown as well, but I still have power running to it.

its not getting power, and i have traced the wires as far into the center console as i can..not sure where they go after that...not game enough either to rip the car apart looking for wires just to get the ciggerette lighter working.

all the wires from the lighter and the headunit wrap into 1 large bunch then head out somewhere..would like to know where but cant see.

If you really want to, you can hook up the cigarette lighter to another "Accessory" wire. You can use the accessory wire from your head unit. Its a lot easier that way, rather than trying to rip out all the wires from the dash board.

you probably know there is 2 fuse boxes in the FTO

i looked up the cigerete lighter's fuse position.

It is in the fuse box under the dash on the drivers side of the car and it is a blue 15 amp fuse and should be in position 14

so count down from the first fuse in the top left hand coner there should be 1 to 5 on the top row then second row down is 6 fuses left to right number as 6 to 11, then third row down of 6 fuses left to right number as 12 to 17, so three fuses across from the left hand bottom corner of the dash fuse box you should see a blue 15 amp fuse. check if you have power going though it.

do you have a test light

If yes earth the test light under the dash some were and you can check the fto fuses quite easily by touching the end of your test light on the small metal rectangle that is exposed on the top of the fuse it is only about 1mm by 2mm and there is one on each side of the top of the fuse, you do not need to remove the fuse to do this and your test light should light up on both sides if the fuse is ok, if it lights only on one side it is blown, if it lights on no sides there is no power to the fuse. So you should do this with the ignition key on or some of the fuses wont have power to them.

Hope this helps
