Where does it sit in the car? I still don't really understand how firming the back of the car gives additional traction to the front, so I doubt I can be of much help anyways.silverGPX wrote:f**k I wonder what my room bar will do then. Probs nothing lol

A loose back end causes the front of the car to shift in the same direction.bjk wrote:Where does it sit in the car? When the rear end is rigid, the car is less likely to twist out of shape at the rear, and will keep you going the direction you want.
If you really want to find out what the difference is, remove your rear sway bar and strut brace.
Find a 60k loop road, and then try again with the gear back in.
60k, because the speed is still manageable once you start to have the car go where you don't want it.

I think the difference between rear strut barred and not is ample enough education for me, but thanks for the learning. Is there a point at which it becomes too rigid?

Yes, but that can be countered with front suspension and tyres.bjk wrote:I think the difference between rear strut barred and not is ample enough education for me, but thanks for the learning. Is there a point at which it becomes too rigid?
In the end, you're on a factory setup, so you won't be making an adverse affect to have to start tinkering further.

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
I'm assuming you mean wider tyres with more grip, but I'm not sure what you mean by the suspension. Is that adjusting, or upgrading?Astron_Boy wrote:Yes, but that can be countered with front suspension and tyres.bjk wrote:I think the difference between rear strut barred and not is ample enough education for me, but thanks for the learning. And because I went for a drive last night, here's some image whoring for you all again.

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
Told you it was worth spending the extra on the good ones!YOU MUST GET ONE. HOLY F*CK THESE THINGS ARE AMAZING.
Like seriously, when I was at vipfto's getting the power steering A/C belt changed I asked him whether I would notice a big difference. Never would have anticipated the level of confidence around corners that I get now. On really tight bends where the front wheels usually start giving out and squealing like pigs, they were so much more composed. It's like where did this grip come from?? I knew the FTO was good at handling, but damn you'd never think a simple piece of metal would make it so much better.
Cannot wait to get some wider rubber, and definitely a Whiteline rear sway bar I reckon. Could probably stand to replace my suspension bushings? (I forget exactly what they're called. )
You really are obsessed you know (says I)here's some image whoring for you all again.

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
Never thought about it too much. Always wondered why people out there said they had owned an FTO but didnt handle as well as they had hoped. Cant have had strut braces then (or LSD
)

Probably not! Although I think I'd only get an LSD if I didn't have to hunt around for those fiddly 25 (or was it 27) spline things.dstocks wrote:Never thought about it too much. Yeeeahh. One of my housemates makes that comment when I wash my car like every week.dstocks wrote:You really are obsessed you know (says I)

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
I guess it would be fair to say you are happy with the decision to pick up an FTO then

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
Oh, certainly. Obviously there's that umming and ahhing as a consumer, when you wonder if you could've picked up a cheaper one later on, or waited and bought a better one, but overall, I'm very satisfied. And a lot of the things are inconsequential, really. Like being a few years newer, or having the facelift bar.dstocks wrote:I guess it would be fair to say you are happy with the decision to pick up an FTO then
Fact of the matter is I needed a car, it was available, and it was what I was willing to spend at the time.
Also I'm an impatient person.

They just can't drive.dstocks wrote:Always wondered why people out there said they had owned an FTO but didnt handle as well as they had hoped.

That little NX I owned for a while had factory suspension, and I could still make it corner catch an FTO

I don't see the hype, but ehh.

No, that just proves Lawso knows how to kill a gearbox, enough to warrant a strip down.
