Petrol used
Hi guys,
Sorry may seem like a dumb question, just wandering is there a particular petrol type that is recommended for the GPX fto?
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Re: Petrol used
I've heard that you CAN run it on 95 octane, but I think the consensus (and I do) is that you run it on 98.

Go for Caltex Vortex 98 or BP Ultimate 98.
I only use Caltex myself

Hey Vectose there's a BP

EDIT: (This just reminded me of ZFL45H1, I wonder how army life is treating him

You can put anything in it, just 98 is going to best.
They're meant to actually run 100 octane so I sometimes use united 100

And also just because aza blew up his engine running shell fuel doesn't mean all shell fuel is bad.
He was unlucky.

Re: Petrol used
My mate used Shell 98 for a while. He would get about 15-16L per 100km.
I told him to try Caltex 98 or BP Ultimate.
He now gets 12-13L per 100km's.....
You decide which is better.

Re: Petrol used
Isn't Japan's regular unleaded rated at 95 octane? 95 or 98 will be fine.

Re: Petrol used
The issue with shell was with the "racing" fuel that they had, not the 98.
I stick to BP and Caltex, purely out of respect for Aza..

Still, read what I said in the post above. With no other changes but fuel supplier, economy increased, as well as runs a lot smoother.Daniel2019 wrote:The issue with shell was with the "racing" fuel that they had, not the 98.

Re: Petrol used
The FTO engine is designed to run on "Super" fuel ie 98-100 octane. The ecu will detect you are using a "standard" fuel ie 91-95 octane via the detonation sensor and de-rate the engine.-Nighthawk- wrote:Isn't Japan's regular unleaded rated at 95 octane? 95 or 98 will be fine.
If the detonation sensor fails the ecu will de-rate the engine to standard fuel timing as well.
So if you are using "standard" fuel you might as well just unplug your detonation sensor and perminatly de-rate your engine.
FYI, the 100 octane fuel available in Australia is not really a 100 octane fuel, it is 95 octane fuel with an additive to make it burn at 100 octane, the additive evaporates quicker than the fuel, by the time you pump it into your fuel tank it is already back to 95 octane. Waste of money.
Do your FTO a favour, get the correct timing out of your ecu, get the best l/km, use 98 octane.
