Garage sales... my new app!
afternoon all,
i asked with bennoz, to check he was ok with me posting this...
so last year i built (with a small team) a mobile phone app, i call g-saler.
its been running since the end of November. the app itself is free, and for now, its free to add garage sales.
id like to see it get more use.
im using adwords to promote it, and for now its getting about 10 sales in each weekend. split fairly evenly VIC\NSW
the app only shows sales within a radius of your handset, you can change this from 5 to 500 km. and you can use it to get directions to the sale.
this post is to serve a two fold purpose. one, try the app out, come over to http://www.facebook.com/AusGsaler and come comment on it.
use it! add sales for your FTO/car parts
two, tell a friend, or share the facebook page to a friend. everyone loves garage sales ... and we all know some jerk who nabbed an awesome bargain. let them know.
if you could all help get one friend to have a look at it, it will help.
www.g-saler.com.au
the links to the apple app and the android app are on the page. you can add a garage sale from the website, OR you can add it from your handset.
give it a go. and if any of you want to build an app for anything come have a chat.
thanks guys.

Re: Garage sales... my new app!
great idea! only thing is it runs on V4.3.0 and above. and you cannot update to the newer version.
i am running V4.2.1 and its not compatible. my iPhone is only 2 years old and I would presume a lot of the people that go to garage sales would have old phones as well. "looking for a bargain" type of people.
best of luck with the venture.

Man, you should check out this new operating system coming out from Micro$oft,
It's awesome, they've called it 'Windows 98!'

Re: Garage sales... my new app!
Works awesome on 4.1.2 Android. But can't see any listing within 500 kms of my location
(Gold Coast)
As for a club app idea:
A members database app would be great. Members can download and install it. It could use either their forum details to login (which might need to share login database) or login via facebook account or something. Even if it has it's own registration and login system; and the users use the same forum name and forum profile pic that's all it would need. The app would use the GPS data and google map service (MapView and LocationManager for Android) to locate each registered member in the map. Other members can check the members' location, and the app can give out some kind of a notification when a member is within a said proximity from the user.
For privacy, members need to request (add a friend?) other members to see their location.
Members can also save their travel logs (just the route traveled should be fine along with time taken and some notes the user wants to specify; like 'watch out for unmarked cops') against their profile and share nice routes/drives/locations of interest among other members. So pretty much I can hop on to the app when am in NSW, check which route Bennoz says is awesome for some twisty action...and select that route which takes me to Google's Navigation system and off I go.
I know this can be done via different apps...but just a thought to combine them all together for one FTO Community App

Only allow people with tappets already adjusted to see where you are.

Apple's reviewing process is *~delightful!~*. Till you buy Test time blocks, they don't even tell you why your app didn't qualify for their store. Every time we have a release for iOS, it's a nightmare for me!

Re: Garage sales... my new app!
Will be dealing with their review process soon. I'm currently in the process of developing an FTO DIY app which is scheduled to be released in the next few months. In general if you stick to the HIG, have decent performance and no bugs you are generally fine.
