Anyone driven a RX8 or 3 MPS? I've been contemplating an upgrade for a while but not sure which way to go. Or if anyone has any other suggestions under 30k.

I have a Mazda 3 (non MPS though).
It's pretty decent, though the ride is harsh.
Otherwise no complaints. Has been reliable besides the CD player malfunctioning.

my pick would be S2000 (fun car to drive, and plenty of aftermarket parts available), or Golf if you need a "sensible car" (I only got the Golf GTI because I needed a new car that looked sensible for work).

If you're buying a second hand Euro, make sure it's still got at lease some factory (extended) warranty, as parts can be expensive... and thanks to the entirely way too many computer components involved, I don't trust them to not have electrical problems (had to hook mine up to a battery charger every weekend for 3 months, till they finally found the problem... long story lol)

RX8 uses more oil than fuel.
RX7s, silvias and evos are getting up there in age, and good luck finding one that's unmolested

I've never owned a turbo. I guess that's the direction I'm heading. Although I love my rotaries hence the rx8 idea. Something quick whilst still being relatively economical and more main Main stream than the fto so parts are more accessible. That's not wanting too much is it?

lol, and in the real world, it depends on where u want to draw the line, i.e. I think my golf is economical enough for what is it, 8L/100km with a pretty heavy right foot, and a fair bit of city traffic driving. 155kws, all usable thanks to the entirely way too many computers driving the car for me lol. sure a SS commodore might beat me in a straight line (if they get the traction), but you know, I won't die if i try to change lanes... and my car still has the fuel door... and I have a job and teeth.

RX8 is a great fun car to drive. Depends how much power you want though

The 177 of kw's that come from an 8 would be a good start. Easy enough to get it rebuilt and ported now and maybe turbo later. That's one of the rotors many good points. Rebuilds are quite reasonable. I've heard fuel consumption is about as good as an old commodore. In terms of power I've put up with 125 kW for 12 years. The only time it's an issue is when I get smoked by just about any thing that wants to race the little red car at the lights.
I forget to mention the catch is it has to be less than 5 years old to get a good interest rate or salary package it.
