What's your current mileage/odo? If it's high then stick to 10w-40.
Thinner/lighter oils tend to sips through your gasket/seals, causing oil leak if the gasket/seals not doing their job well enough as they ages.

5l 300v would cost you somewhere around 150.
Its Dwayne's black fto, at 125,506.

My determining factor on what oil to choose is the oil that best keeps my engine quiet. I've used all types of oils and Castrol Edge 5W40 (using now) has been noticeably better than anything else I have used. I am also using a genuine Mitsubishi oil filter. My car use to tick more when cold, so I switched to a 5W40 and its so much better now.
I know oil flow is much better than every other oil I have used by a large margin.
To give you an example I've changed lifters in my car a few times and each time it takes about 2 minutes for the lifters to start shutting up.
When I did my last set using Castrol Edge the lifters started to quieten down after no kidding 5 seconds!
My FTO has done 250000kms and I have no leaks. The only leak I have experienced in the last 220000kms is my spark plug seals!

Bought it on special to give it a whirl (like 40 bucks from 100) and its definitely doing what it's supposed to. Came down from 15-40 and haven't heard anything from tappets or nothing, such a smoother feel.
Got the thumbs up from me =)
Doubled that with a standard ryco filter too
Hows the castrol going? are you still using it and has it served you well?
this thread is so spread out its makes it hard to decide on what oil to use. currently using penrite F/Syn 10-40 and can i just say........ its crap.
Hey Vanadinite... what makes the Penrite so bad? My old workplace uses it for all their customer vehicles and it seemed to be fairly standard. Whats bad about it?
I have been considering buying some myself and testing it out, but its a toss up between sticking to the old Shell Helix HX7 and Castrol Edge and trying out the Penrite.

I tried Castrol Edge 5w30 this time instead of Motul 300V 5w30. I like the Castrol Edge, specially when I can buy it at a fraction of what Motul costs. Just got to keep an eye out for Supercheap specials.

It's about $68 or something at the moment at my local (ish) SCA.

Should have stocked up on it when it was $40.

Should have.. but I didn't know it was on special at the time and I also had never used it. Ive always stuck to the recommended Shell Helix HX7.

I use the Castrol 5w30 every time right from my first oil change. Never a problem works great .
