Im new here and just bought a FTO.. im just wandering in your opinion how long would you think the FTO can last in terms of age and mileage before i have to wreck it? considering it is also 20 years old now. Any comment or trail of thoughts is appreciated. Just want a guide to how long i can use my FTO for and if the time comes where i need to spend a huge chunk of money to repair some issues, this information will play a vital part in my decision.

There are a few FTOs around with some decently high mileage. MIVEC engines at that, and still going strong.
So long as they are taken care of they are as good as any other car out there...
Nacho and Phil069 have some of the higher mileage examples on here.
Dstocks also has a car with 232,000 sitting at his property that runs fine as well.
Also take in to account most these cars probably had their clocks wound backwards, they have done more mileage than would be apparent in the first place!

oh i see. What do you mean by that? isn't it illegal to have your odometer adjusted? Most FTO's have quite low mileage considering its age, could that be the reason why?
So im hopeful it can last at least 300ks if serviced properly and taken care off.
It's a general belief with a bit of evidence against cars imported from Japan to have their clocks wound backwards.
Yes it's illegal, but the water bridge has a hazy line.
As long as you take care of your car and there is an active source to find parts at a reasonable price, I would say forever. Just like people still own perfectly working cars made in the 40's.
wow ok, im actually quite surprise that turning back the odometer exists especially in Japan where rules, regulations and quality is their emphasis. but thank you for letting me know. Dont think there is any absolute way we will know the truth.

Do hope my fto does last me, spending money to fix the rust and get it back to shape. I seriously dont understand why Mitsubishi does not re-launch the FTO's, in terms of style and engine reliability it can be rated as one of the best in the market for its age. And it looks soooo sexy even till today........

Current market is more geared towards economical cars rather than performance.
That being said, the BRZ/86 has been incredibly popular.

Yeah!!....those are sexyy tooo..at the time i checked it out had a waiting list of 12 months...LOL
Kaz's old car had 330K on it at last check. Take care of it will last. Flog it and neglect general up keep and it wont. Same as any other car. My daily drive has 229K on it and it runs beautifully.

Yeah mine's approaching the 330000km mark but I did cheat and swapped the engine out for a 36000 km engine at about 260000km. Saying that though my first engine got a decent workout during my early 20's and the engine was still running decent at the time.....it was just cheaper for me to put in a new engine instead of replacing all the engine oil seals at the time from f*ckwit mechanics overfilling the engine with oil.
Like everyone's saying, it really depends on your driving style and how well you maintain your car. Just do your research on here and you'll know which parts to maintain more and keep an eye on.....eg. torque converter, stepper motor, input/output speed sensors and where to get the parts cheap *coughs Dwayne*

Wow thats interesting. .how much did you spend to change your engine? And what engine would suit the fto?
