It was a subaru mate..Taz wrote:They put a pod and a fan on a turbo Big Ugly Soap Box Racer call it a cai and expect results.
But hey if a half cocked 2 man team of enthusiasts say its all a load of sh*t rhen I believe them, im sure mutli million dollar race cars and companies are wrong as well as the principles of an internal combustion engine necausw that simple research proves it...
Also, how does putting a fan directly in front of a completely exposed filter not replicate a cold air intake? (Serious question, what is the difference)
I fix cars.

Although Mightycarmods is entertaining, they are FAR from a reliable source when it comes to information / results. Most of the stuff they do is cringeworthy I've found :\silverGPX wrote:Watch the mighty car mods one too

No its an R34 im talking about their cai video. An exposed pod in front of a fan is not a cai. There is different pressures, air flow ans temperatures involved.Daniel2019 wrote:It was a subaru mate..Taz wrote:They put a pod and a fan on a turbo Big Ugly Soap Box Racer call it a cai and expect results.

It was also absolutely pointless doing it on a stock turbo skyline... still has to go through a turbo and intercooler

Regardless of the turbo, how is running a tube from your front bar up to in front of your filter any different from just blowing a fan onto the filter?Taz wrote:No its an R34 im talking about their cai video. If anything the fan would be better than a cold air intake.

Re: Top Speed of an FTO?
Im not a specialist and probably wouldnt know, but you cant replace conditions with similar ones and expect your results to be absolute and conclusive. Im sure that an enclosed box will probably have more pressure than outside wind rushing at it, and my guess is that having ambient cold air is better than it blowing directly at the pod, ad the pod naturally sucks in the air, and can do so far more efficiently when it has it readily available all around it rather than being forced to grab it from the front of the filter (the least effective part of it) and at the sides when it can (if at all when its rushing by)
f**k i dont know - but i do know this - CAI's cant be 'mythbusted' and yield a loss of power over a stock box if so many companies and cars run them etc.
They did shotty research/testing at the very least and cannot be taken credibly - taping a pod on a long tube and blowing a fan at it is not proper research/testing
They should of taken a car without a CAI on the dyno, installed the CAI, tuned for it and then re-tested it. Guarantee you then the results will be FAR more promising...
/end rant

They strapped 2x leaf blowers to the throttle body and put them on max and it didn't nothing.

It must be the case that anything to do with cars is riddled with discord, conjecture and conflicting evidence.

No, because it was not done by 3A racing. It was in a Auto Salon magazine. 3A racing are now just hosting it on their site.Taz wrote:And you believe this was not biased in any way?Vectose wrote:There's also this article. HKS pod didn't do too well.

Re: Top Speed of an FTO?

A real world answer to the OP's original question, my racecar hits 220 on Conrod, that's coming out of Forests Elbow doing maybe 100, downhill then over the rise then downhill again. It's still accelerating when I lift off for the Chase, so have no doubt it would go faster, but you would need a very long straight road. This is from my GPS laptimer (very accurate).
I probably have about the same fwkw as dstocks and azza, maybe a little more. And stability is fine at this speed, but I do have decent coilovers and a functional rear wing (without the wing I think it'd be a little taily lol).
So standing start over the quarter, no way you will see 180-210. Maybe 150 if you're lucky.
And yes the speed limiter is set at 180, but the actual speed will vary based on your wheel/tyre sizes. Easiest way to remove this is just cut the wire to the ECU

And by the way those idiots that do the testing that 'proves' things lol. Are, well... idiots lol!
As with statistics, you can prove or disprove anything you want on a dyno if you know, or don't know, what you're doing

Re: Top Speed of an FTO?
Had to give it a go this morning on the way home
Didn't show any signs of cutting out ¿
Had a lot of extra weight in the car and half a tank, fkn ran out of straight road, so I couldn't keep goin

It is limited to 180, if yours isn't then it has been fucked with
As for your camera quality, that video showed me nothing and were you really doing 180+km/h while holding your potato camera? Lol
