Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
I like the idea of it. I think in terms of reliability it would def have its advantageeous over the turbo route. I'd be happy with 200kw. Apparently with a diff bell housing it would bolt up to the tip. So I've read. I wonder how the tip would handle 200kw though.

Surely if you were going to all that trouble you'd want a manual though.

Not necessarily.Daniel2019 wrote:Surely if you were going to all that trouble you'd want a manual though.

Depends on what kind of driving you do with the car.

It's a 3.5L MIVEC engine in an FTO.. what kind of driving other than redline bashing would it be used for?bjk wrote:Not necessarily.Daniel2019 wrote:Surely if you were going to all that trouble you'd want a manual though.![]()

Could always use the 5 speed tiptronic from the later Magnas if you want to remain auto

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
You can but its less fun, you have less power and the 5 speed boxes are hard to source.

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
I love my tip. Apart from that it would keep the initial cost of the conversion a bit lower without forking out for the manual. If I went turbo I'd have to go manual straight up. Anyone know anyone in QLD that does one of conversions? Not saying I'm 100% going to do it but I'm at that point now where I need to do something with the fto or move up to something else. After 12 years I am rather attached.

It's more to do with the near impossibility of getting it engineered.spetz wrote:Yeah 6G75 fits and would make for a very fast FTO.
The reason it's not done is mostly because people who own FTOs generally do not spend a great deal of money on the engine and the ones that do go for an easier approach, of which there are many

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
Bennoz, what makes you say that?
I've (out of curiosity) inquired into getting a 3.5L conversion engineered and it seemed within limits for NSW/ACT.
I think the reality is for whoever does do an engine conversion going 4G63 or 6A13TT is easier, quicker, cheaper, lighter and has more scope for upgrades which excludes the 6G7X series as a viable option

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
The reason you don't see them very often is because they don't bolt up. Only one of the 4 mounts does. Have a closer look at the PR ones as to how they got them to fit. They have had to move the roll stoppers on the crossmembers so theyre not sitting in the middle and use adaptor plates. And they have all drilled a new hole in the chassis Mount to get them to fit. I'd like to see an engineer pass that sort of stuff in australia. To do this properly would require custom engine mounts/brackets and custom drive shafts as a minimum.

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
Also engineering isnt really a problem. It goes off the kerb weight of the car x4 for NA as to what can be engineered so this easily fits under those limits. Turbo is the weight x2.75

Very good points. Would be cool though. Back to the budget conscious drawing board.

Yes we all know the laws have changed, however I still say, If you can find an engineer who isn't still sticking by the old 20% cap rule, I'll find you a good looking Scottish woman.BI65ND wrote:Also engineering isnt really a problem. I know 2 engineers, the one who was going to my FTO & the one Alvin spoke to about doing this very conversion & they both said no way.

Also, Ben, how come yours isn't engineered yet? Is it just the spacers because you dont want to change your rims left after the brake upgrade?

Bennoz how much are you expecting to pay to get an engineers certificate?
