Is using it usually accompanied by a sort of burning smell? Think it was during my last hills run. The oil goes up to about mid-way between the notches on the stick.
Yep. The rings get worn, the valve seals wear, it happens. While mine is a bit different being boosted, I still go through at least 2 litres between 5,000k services.

Are they things that I can replace? Gonna be saving up for the 200k service.
Mine burns a bit of oil when I gun it as you can see in my dyno vid.....but I never have to top it up between services and I gun it often.
Are you sure you don't have a leak out of the rear bank rocker cover gasket and the oil is burning off on the exhaust/exhaust manifold, causing a burning smell?

I'm going to check the level again tomorrow morning. I'd have no idea if I have a leak or not... should I put a piece of cardboard under the car? at the moment it sits over grassy stuff inbetween the driveway.
Holy f*ck. When I got a quote for comprehensive through Just Car insurance for just over $1500 (paying monthly 'cause I can't afford the whole lot, it's just under $1300 when paying for a year in full), I thought it was a little expensive, and was part of the reason I didn't go with it last time my insurance expired.
Until I called other insurers!
SGIC had the lowest excess at $450 standard and $400 age, but with a premium of +$2700.
Then I called the RAA, $400 standard, $750 age, $500 import, $500 high performance, $4681 premium.
Allianz won't even insure imports.
No wonder they say "Lucky you're with AAMI" (As Just Car is underwritten by them).
It would probably be cheaper if you get a engine with low km's put in. But even with that one you don't know it's history or if it will have any problems.
With a reconditioned one you will know what has been done and the state of the engine.

Had someone reverse into me. WHILE I WAS IN THE CAR. Some (likely old and senile) driver in a probably European hatch. Was just a bump, but they drove right off. Would've posted in the Rant Thread, but yeah.
