Key stuck attn dstocks
PMs don't work on my phone, so just a quick thread. I'm at work atm, tried just a few minutes ago moving between gears and no luck there. I assume I'm going to need a screw driver or something to get at this bolt?
I sort of removed the rubber-y bit around the gear shift console, is it the bolt on the top right? Looks like I'd have to remove the centre console to get at it.

Tried that.
If I'm lucky maybe the drive home will fix it, but I doubt it.

Opened it up and had a look. Found 'the thing that moves when I move the gearstick', but I have no idea how adjust it.
You'll most likely be getting a call tomorrow dstocks.

Re: Key stuck attn dstocks
I think you will find it is a different bit
You need a 12mm spanner, and there is a wire cable on the left side of gear stick. It looks like a cable and tube set up like the brakes on a bike. That wire follows all the way through to the steering column.
The steering column is the other point where the joint wears and wont let you pull the key out.

I just had to add it ......

Yep, not that one. That changes gears. The cable you need runs to the left side of the shifter.

This is the problem you have when you sell cars to friends or people you know.
Buyer expects lifetime warranty and help for any issues they have alone the way..

Re: Key stuck attn dstocks
I want to rip the whole thing out... But not sure if that makes the car think the car is constanly in park.. Or not...
Would be a bitch if it thinks you are never in park, and thus would never be able to remove the keys...

Blerg, key is still stuck. Not sure what more fiddling I can do.
Rock_it, any tips?
I have learned that the metal tip piece (last two pics near the oddly shaped whited plastic piece with the red line) is only connected to the brake though, when before I thought it might've had something to do with it.
Most auto elec's can't service till mid next week...

I love my manual car, where the key comes out no problems at all

There are two types of people on forums; those that give helpful advice, and the others

Take off the cowling around the steering column, and then there is a white plastic thingy under the ignition barrel with a couple of screws, unscrew that as well. If some pieces of broken plastic fall out then that was your problem.
LED ALL the things.

I'll have to do it tomorrow.. Or tonight.Supplanter wrote:Take off the cowling around the steering column, and then there is a white plastic thingy under the ignition barrel with a couple of screws, unscrew that as well. If some pieces of broken plastic fall out then that was your problem.
To avoid drawing attention to it in the carpark at work I've reassembled the whole thing. Floor console has a crack. /sigh.
Hopefully I haven't messed anything up, haha.

Just remove a few vital fuses and relays so the car can't be stolen in the mean time...
