Re: Project: Maverick
Some pics for those who aren't following on FB - not going to repeat myself on whats been done/current plans etc all you guys get who dont follow on FB is a few photos every now and then
Doors are back on after being gutted and cleaned down Engine bay completely bare, firewall scrubbed down - a few little patches left but nothing big Interior cleaned down - what the door looks like gutted from the inside - only the opening mechanism and intrusion bars remain Dash is back in after being gutted of all vents and unnecessary supports etc along with a new cluster Boot after being cleaned down as well. Basic wiring for the lights has been left in - everything else has been removed. Still needs to be wiped down again with some prepsol to get the last of the sh*t out or the wheel well Close up of the doors - hours of labour went into cleaning up the inside and out making them shine. Results speak for themselves Rear end. Boot lid de-spoilered and waiting to be fitted with the full Carbon GT wing and resprayed that sexy blue. Will not be fitting myself as the problems that can arise if its not absolutely perfect are not worth the risk. Real shame about the tail light chip however i can simply glue the chip back on perfectly fingers crossed. Experimenting around with the tail lights, sprayed the outer edge in black - compared to the plain thin black line that goes back to clear on the outside it looks astonishing. Just got to clean up at the top in the middle a little bit and it will look like new - very finniky trying to tape it up etc but worth the effort! And thats all you guys get - if you want plans/the list etc you'll have to head on over to FB!

While its only an extra 15min per post to do so its just bloody annoying

Re: Project: Maverick
More updates on FB today (only posting here for you Aza!)
GPR is in the garage already on stands and started the stripping process. I managed to stop myself from just taking everything possible out as quickly as possible, and only took out a few things. Front and rear strut braces and wiper motor and assembly.
Cleaned everything up, polished it all and installed it on maverick.
Here are a few before and after photos
Before After More photos and info on the FB page, but this is the condensed version - just for you aza

Re: Project: Maverick
More progress
Seats are in and so are coilovers after a bit of a sponge-bath
Tried taking the cluster out but i forgot the ol' EL Glow dials, and i have no idea where the wires lead to so im just going to swap the entire dash over (mines in slightly better condition anyway)
Need to sell this engine and box so i can get the subframe cradle and steering rack out and reconditioned to be put into Maverick. Found a very suitable low km immaculate evo 4 4g that would be perfect, so buy my sh*t people! Fund the monster

Re: Project: Maverick
Today is a glorious day indeed
FINALLY got both rear locknuts off the wheels - with a 10pound sledge hammer, a socket 5mm too small, 10min of loud banging that my neighbours are now glaring at me for, and a 3M length of PVC tube
2 sockets were sacrificed to the car gods unfortunately, one of which was my quality kincrome socket, now have a 'sca' branded socket instead (this will be replaced soon enough )
The point of bashing on a socket so much smaller than the nut was to forge the grip shape onto the socket. It curled back the metal in all 12 points (had to be a 12 point, 6 point didnt work)
Im actually surprised that they came off tbh.
Also heard from a guy that i was enquiring about evo parts - he has an evo 4 engine with 80km, perfect nick, gearbox, rear diff, prop shaft, driveshafts and hubs. Only thing he doesnt have is an xfer case. He was going to do this conversion on a mirage but something changed or something. getting back to me in the next few days with prices - bloody shame i have to buy this FTO!
Hopefully we can work something out in the coming months!

Thanks Vectose Or not ... that's another $600 to add to the list
And funnily enough that same 17 y/o I mentioned was trying to convince me I should have a carbon fibre bonnet. Personally though, I don't like them.

Re: Project: Maverick
Sooo i just got some AWESOME news today.
The guy ive enquired about the evo gear got back to me with a price.
For the engine, ecu, turbo, harness, rear AYC diff, driveshafts, rear hubs and 'a few other small things i might need' i was expecting 5k or more.
He is only wanting 2200!
This is everything i need except a transfer case, prop shaft and front hubs.
Hopefully i can close the deal and get this thing on the road

Re: Project: Maverick
Getting a lot of useful responses and good deals on 4gtuner - the atmosphere there is awesome
Heres a pic of the ass of an AWD converted FTO - i believe this one has a 13tt in it instead of a 4g.
Its only a matter of time before i can get a hold of someone whos done it before and is willing to share the fountain of knowledge and make my life easier.
this just proves even more so it can be done, done neatly and sex(ily)

Dammit, I can't see attachments.
Then you can post a DIY: AWD Conversion.

Re: Project: Maverick
Hah!
I will document progress accordingly, and will be happy to ask any questions etc that come my way, but considering the money involved, the parts sourced, the fact that its not road legal (what ill be doing anyway), and finally - that its far from a DIY and something you can do in your garage () it wont be worth writing up a DIY

Re: Project: Maverick
Big projects take time. Don't worry, I've had my mivec conversion shell for 2 months now and all I've done is strip the interior and replace the loom & ecuTaz wrote:still a good year and a half out yet id say
If/when it is running properly it will be worth it though
