Engine Bay Materials?

Hi all,


Trying to fix the mess in my engine bay, being the wiring following the little venture the other weekend...

I'd like to know if there's any heat-resistant electrical tape, or some form of tape i can wrap around all the wiring that the ambient temperatures won't wear away? Can't count the times I've had sticky electrical tape goo on my hands after trying to use it. Looking for coloured tape, too... Would rather go the red tape while I'm at it and add a bit of colour.

Another thing that's been on my mind is the plastic tubing covering the injector wiring... Where can I buy it from? Mine's all brittle and basically falls to bits when I touch it. If you're wondering what i'm referring to it's this:

The plastic loom isn't brittle. What you will find is it is tape that is wrapped around it and that has turned brittle.

You can get tapes which withstand slightly higher temps but they will all end up going sticky and then brittle after a while due to the high engine bay temps.

I bought red plastic loom for mine from overseas. But you can buy the black stuff from Jaycar, Supercheap, Autobarn etc.

I'll just roll into jaycar and ask for a heat resistant red PVC tape and they should just grab it for me. Saves the effort and confusion knowing what I get like :lol:

Thats just normal insulation tape. I recently discovered this sh*t.

Its a self amalgamating tape that is waterproof, heat proof and resistant to most chemicals.

Unbelievable stuff. One is has a plastic strip which you peel off and you basically stretch it over the harness and as soon as the stuff makes contact with itself, it amalgamates together.

Find cutting the roll down the middle or using a thinner strip gives a better appearance.

Only water cooled bike I've owned was my CBR. I always buy Aircooled, but not a bad idea.

Even 4x4ing, never know when a branch decides to shoot up in-between the engine guard.

Mainly dirt bikes, used it a few times on tyres then just filled it up with co2 bottle

I will never use PVC tape anymore after this. PVC isn't waterproof (some expensive ones are)!
