'Clunk' noise while shifting to reverse.
Some one help me diagnose this please.
With the engine running, and the car in neutral, and clutch disengaged; I engage the clutch, and shift to reverse. There is a 'clunk' noise which seems to be coming from the back of the car just before it engages reverse, and it takes 10% extra effort in putting the shifter to reverse, aka, not a smooth shift.
With the the engine off, repeat the same steps, no noise at all.
Try other gears, no noise at all.
Now, with the engine running, car in neutral, I engage the clutch, shift to some gear apart from R, while keeping the clutch engaged, I now shift to Reverse, there is no 'clunk' noise. Shift is milky smooth. So as long as I am not disengaging the clutch and re-engaging it again before shifting to Reverse, there is no noise at all.
Through out the test, the car stays stationary, so am not moving the car at all. I have also noticed sometimes it does not want to shift to reverse. Disengaging the clutch and re-engaging it again before trying to shift back to reverse works everytime.
Any idea? :\

My FTO has a bit of trouble getting into reverse ocassionally, sometimes I have to go back to 1st to get reverse, sometimes I have to allow the car to roll slightly or drive it forward slightly and then slot it into reverse.
I don't force it in if it doesn't want to go.

Bleed your clutch, change the fluid and throw some nylon g70 in

Re: 'Clunk' noise while shifting to reverse.
Have bled clutch and changed fluid recently.
Gear box is running smoooooooth.
I just assume that the reverse gear needs to be lined up correctly as it wouldn't have a sincro gear.

Haven't changed clutch fluid, but did change transmission fluid some time back. Gear box is milky smooth, just the damn reverse plays up sometimes. Want to still locate where that 'clunk' comes from. :\
Well, at least am happy to know that am not alone with reverse problems

Which/what grade clutch fluid do we need and how much for our cars? And some 200ml of G70 I think? (According to their website, 125ml every 2 litre)

Just DOT 4 brake fluid for the clutch fluid. One bottle should be enough.

And one tube of G70 should do. Seeing as the gearbox holds 2.2L of oil.
