And apparently is had destroyed a few tip boxes?
I know its good to downshift using Tip if you want to accelerate but if you are in "auto" mode and put your foot down totally i heard the auto can choose the wrong gear and destroy the box?
Is this true? Scary if it is!!!
What is this kickdown people speak of?

Any gearbox damage like that is not the cause of the tip ECU, it's the fault of the driver not looking after the car.
I have only heard of one tip gearbox blowing when downshifting at high-speed and at the drivers own admission the gearbox had been making clunking sounds for some time and they had ignored it
