Loose sound coming from the boot

Post by NextLevel »

hey fellas,

Whenever i drive through a bumpy road, i can hear what sounds like an exhaust bump.

problem is, my exhaust is fix quite tight and doesnt move enough to hit the boday.

the sound does not occur when i go through cornerings, only over speed humps and rough roads.

I have also check the boot tray, spare wheel and tool kit. (made sure they didnt move)

does anyone else have the similar thing happen to them, or know what the hell it is?

cheers

I had the same thing a while back, ended up being a pair of scissors under one of the trays in the boot left by the previous owner.

How will you find the problem when they tell you everything needs to be replaced?

Unfortunately this is very much the case. I've had customers calling me back telling me that they've had a $14 safety check done and the shocks are stuffed, yet they've only been fitted for a month or two. I understand a random failure is going to occur once every now and then, nothing is perfect. But to have all four shocks rooted after a month? :?

Like Aza has said, it could be any number of things. If you can, get the car up on some ramps or jack stands and have a look at all the suspension bolts. Main things to look for are rust marks around bolts or areas where the paint has been rubbed off. These are normally bolts that aren't done up tight enough and can often lead to clunking noises. With the suspension bushings, have a look at the bush itself and see if the rubber is tearing around the outside of the casing, or whether it is cracked/split. Also check for excess movement using a pry-bar or large screwdriver on control arms. If a bush is flogged out, it can cause all manner of noises as well as safety issues (i.e. worn 05-on Hilux front strut bushes can cause the front strut to snap).
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!
