HELP A BROWN BROTHER OUT

Post by sublime19 »

So someone reported me to the EPA for having an exhaust which is too loud. Which is pretty sh*tty, since I don't even rev it above 3000 rpm, and drive the car like 2 hours in a week max.

Pretty sure any aftermarket exhaust is going to be over the 90dB, or correct me if I'm wrong here? Mine has a low drone/rumble, it's not a whiny loud exhaust, but I doubt that makes a difference. And I know I can't just put a silencer on since it wouldn't be allowed in the test.

So, my only option - Can someone lend me a stock exhaust for a couple of days, so I can go and get this test done? Happy to pay obviously, just don't wanna change anything.

And I bet it's cos my car's 'black', just can't win

Edit: Tested @ 4950rpm, bit excessive I think, seriously, I haven't even revved it to 4950 in like 3 years.

Oh, and my filter isn't boxed - Will they give a sh*t about this and defect me for it?

Call me Hire Kenards.

I have the one I had custom made to get ass EPA. I think it out out 83db.. looks like sh*t but works..

You will also need to box your filter.. They will take photos of the whole car.. Even search for the charcoal canister..

Happy to hire out the exhaust, so I get some cash back. I had to sit the EPA twice, plus all the fines..
I just had to add it ......

My car is black too, and I was a victim .. lol ..

But Sooty, you can ring up the EPA and advise them under the privacy principals (4a I think) you have a right to know the information contained on their files, and who reported you.

I will bet it is a bloody council ranger ... Like mine ... They have all the rights of an EPA officer now. :(

It could also be a result of the dob in a hoon iPhone app... But usually it takes 2 "off the street" complaints from the public to be asked to go through to an EPA station.

It will cost you $60 to have the EPA test done at the garage as well. Even if you pass ... Which sucks..

They will only do noise... They stick a microphone behind the car, and measure the distance. It looks at rev's on acceleration and back off.

The reason it is at a high rev range is it is meant to be 3/4 to redline for your car...

Section 6 ... Access & Correction applies...

"An organisation must provide individuals with access to personal information held about the individual, other than in exceptional circumstances, and incorporate processes for the correction of the information on the request of the individual, or if there is some disagreement as to the correction, allow a statement to be associated with the information noting that the individual desires a correction."

If you do go a stock exhaust.. Make sure it is stock and silent...

I put a stock exhaust from Taz on mine, and while it was able to pass on acceleration, it failed by 3.4db on back off. So that set me back $100 for the exhaust + $60 for the test and half a day off work due to them only having 12 stations you can go to... And none of them in my area...

Lovin the Love - And yea, I'll totally pull the race card. "I'm assuming you want some Four & Twenty pies and a slurpee when I come to my inspection, since according to statistics, I should work and/or own a 7-11"

Daniel2019 - Cheers dude, is this attached to your car? I'm confused when you say it's sitting on your shelf but I have to unscrew it? All good, I'll borrow butt-craig's exhaust, much appreciated though (yes, some genuine gratitude from me, you should feel special :o )

Butt-Craig - Dude if you could, that'd be awesome, I only have a cannon, don't have a catback or downpipes or anything, so i'll just need to swap the cannon over. I'll take this the local mechanic and he'll do it for like $20 cos I don't wanna fk anything up

It's honestly fkn retarded that they'll test it at 4950, this honestly seems like a crock of sh*t.

Its on my shell. I have a GR Sport shell at the moment to drop my project engine into and it is still bolted up to it - everything below the Y pipe is bolted up still (I do have the Y pipe and stock headers sitting in my garage)

If for some reason you dont end up with Craig's or its too loud or whatever, you're welcome to it until you can put your old one back on

Based on experience we went through with Craig's, def don't grab the stock one, after 10/15 years the muffler baffling is fucked. That's why he failed.

Get Craig's... Can even help get it on and off, f**king expert at it now
