A few Tiptronic questions

Just a few queries about the tip mode.

1) anybody know the ideal revs/speed to change into second gear during normal city driving? I'm finding that it's the most awkward shift in terms of how the car behaves immediately afterwards.

2) should I have my foot off the accelerator when changing gears? I've been doing this the whole time because I know what would happen if you did it in a manual.

3) are there maximum speed limits for each gear to avoid undue stress on the gearbox?

a) i would say about 25km roughly, depends on your style - about 3k rpm is usually ideal.
b) no, with autos you dont need to.
c) nothing special i would assume, cars are designed from the factory to be mistreated and poorly serviced, as long as your not limiter bashing the sh*t out of it every gear every drive and maintain it properly, it will treat you fine too

I've been usually trying around 3k unless I'm giving it some juice. Although I am now suspecting that the slight jarring is from taking my foot off the accelerator. Tomorrow I'll be trying it without and see if it makes a difference.

It's not bad for it gearbox unless u do it ever single gear on ever single change. I'd say every here mad there wont hurt it also phil069 is a manual so it won't change until he wants it to where as an auto I would guess will change at a point before redline even with your foot welded to the floor

I shift at 1800 rpms , and i'm on 5th gear cruising at 60kmh

don't need to downshift for overtaking either..

A transmission oil change will make the gear changes smoother as well (ifoil is a bit dated). FTO tips are very picky about their oil, so when the oil gets older (and you get a little dirt, condensation etc in it) ) the gear changes can be rougher.

At those speeds?

first and 2nd in either manual or tip go by before you even realise you've revved out sometimes.

At speeds above 100, that is about spot on.

I was a bit cautious in those gear changes, I normally go to 8500RPM

I am picking up some oil from my mechanic today ... Just his standard tranny oil ...

You might want to check that Craig. I believe that it does make a difference (viscosity etc). From memory, Dextron 3 was one of them. The oil thread probably covers it all off.

I hate to say this but go see UAS http://www.uniquecars.com.au/ though they aren't the most helpful if you're not going to be buying from them. I think it was something like $80 per litre, and you need about 6-8 litres.

Lol, I get what you mean by expensive! I might investigate it later on though.

UAS don't seem to have the redline oils anyway?
