EOI - Mini DIY gearbox day

Post by Bennoz »

Guys, seeing as I'm about to do my annual gearbox rebuild, was just curious to see if anyone was keen to watch & learn.

I can demonstrate:
- How to open & strip down the box
- How to press bearings on & off
- How to check tolerances
- How to check for wear in syncros & gears
- How to shim the diff (or swap out a diff if adding an LSD)
- How to reassemble inc. torque settings

I'll also be doing a clutch removal & inspection & at this stage, looks like I may be doing a full clutch replacement.

Am happy for other members to work on their cars as well, will be happy to give mechanical advice, however I will be focussed on the gearbox.

Also thinking BBQ & beer as per usual!

If we get enough interest, I'll move to NSW section :)

He'd either end up being forgotten and left to look at the gearbox while everyone was eating and drinking, or would get passed around at crotch level. Otherwise, not a bad idea
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

I brought 2 back down to Melbourne on the "cute" trailer for nacho and it took two of us to lift them off the "cute" trailer.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can help you look for it quicker, in a convertible.
