Good Audio for ~300$ ? (already own headunit)
Hi,
I just got my Black 1994 GPX FTO !
The speakers with the car are the originals (which are, total crap!) But the head unit is a Sony with 52Wx4
Was thinking of getting Pioneer (I used to have pioneer a long time ago, bloody brilliant!) 6x9 in the back and to change the ones in the front, BUT...
I don't have a shed/garage nor the tools to do custom backboard for the speakers, So either I need speakers which fit in the original settings (which I think is hard to get)
or if you would recommend a decent shop around Melbourne (Clayton) that would be great too.

WTTC = Welcome to the club
Kickers have had very good reviews, although get the higher models, not the bottom ones.
You can also pick up Alpine Type S gear cheap from the US I believe.

These install without any special tools? Do I need the "L" screwdriver ?

Yes, the "L" screwdriver will make changing the 6x9 a lot more easier.prof_hussam wrote:These look awesome !WTTC

I just use a screw bit from a drill and a shifter or those grip things

I just use one of these with a phillips head attachment - work wonders and can probably walk into any auto shop and get one cheap

What do you need the "L" screw driver for? I can't remember needing it for my FTO audio install.
Cheers

To remove the parcel tray - the screws at the back which hold it down - cant really get anything in there as the rear windscreen gets in the way of a screwdriver

Parcel tray doesn't have any screws at the back. Just at the front. The L shaped screwdriver is needed to remove the back screws of the 6x9 speakers.

Some parcel shelves were replaced with custom baby-chair-anchor jobbies, because for some compliancers it was easier than fitting them to the factory shelf. Mine was replaced with a fabric covered piece of MDF.
LED ALL the things.

Re: Good Audio for ~300$ ? (already own headunit)
I got rid of the screws for the 6x9's, drilled the holes a little bigger in the parcel shelf (from the boot side being careful not to let the drill bit touch the rear window) and used small nuts/bolts to anchor the speakers.
The heads of the bolts hold themselves still against the outer metal edge of the speakers, so I can remove the speakers with a socket via the boot.
I found the 6" speakers slightly smaller then the plastic mount in the doors but I managed to get 3 out of 4 screws in.

Hey mate!
For $100, you can get yourself a set of Clarion 6" splits, and put the tweeters in your dash... Sounds absolutely awesome and they have lasted me almost a year now with no fault!
6X9s vary as do subs, but that's just my two cents
