Light switch smoke
Got FTO up and running but I noticed smoke from the steering column area when I put on high beem. I pulled it down and noticed a 4-pin connector on the lever itself (blk, yellow, purple, red) the yellow is burning at the point of the connector.
I've also noticed a green substance around the area. Need help.

That would be corrosion.ftonoob wrote:I've also noticed a green substance around the area. Need help.
Either moisture is getting in to the cabin or someone has spilt something onto the area.
I would assume that the corrosion has made it's way accross multible pins and maybe even into the switch.
Clean the wire pins, strip the switch and clean the internals. Clean metal parts (wire pins/brass contacts in switch) down with brake clean or simular and polish metal components with emery paper.
Inspect to see if wires have burnt through to each other, replace as necessary.
Check and see if you have the correct wattage globes in your high beam (60-65W), if they are much higher they may be drawing to much amps through the switch.
Put back together and test.
If switch no longer works you may have to replace it.
If the wires/switch heat up again you will have to look for a short circuit further along the circuit.

Re: Light switch smoke
What does the higher wattage globes have to do with current going through the switch? All the current goes through the relay and only a small amount of current goes through the switch which is used to trigger the relay.PHIL069 wrote:That would be corrosion.ftonoob wrote:I've also noticed a green substance around the area. It's weird how a trigger wire can be melted. I'm guessing you should check your high beam relay and the harness going from the switch to the relay.

Re: Light switch smoke
Higher wattage bulbs require more amps even though going through rely if wires are not heavy enough to handle more amps they will burn out EG Fog light switch

Re: Light switch smoke
I have a problem with my battery light coming on @ 4K rpm and up. I did an alt rebuild recently. Could it be the belt's too tight?

Re: Light switch smoke
Moar like the belt to loose and slipping on the alternator pulley at high revs.
Assuming you put on a new pulley during rebuild.
