Picking up the Black GR sport and doing a mivec conversion rather than a manual conversion..
Vectose, dstocks and I pulled the engine out of it over the weekend.
Got home and Vectose helped me out with removing the first two camshafts on the engine to go into it, will tackle the other two tomorrow (cheers rob!)
Progress
Well done guys
Vectose, you are coming along well my young apprentice
Daniel, you are coming along well my young apprentice of my young apprentice

Yep. The change worked out nicely as it saves dstocks some work (silver one has a running engine so can now keep it in there) and I like the black one more, and it saves me doing a full manual conversion. Just need to chuck in my gearbox and clutch as well as the engine rather than the full conversion

Yep, Daniel was elbow deep in grease and oil after the job. We made him do most of the stuff under the car . Think he learnt a thing or 2 though.
Thanks to Vectose for solving the cold start on the Silver one as well. Was told by the previous owner it was not the stepper, but he was wrong. Just got the alternator to go and then blue slip time.

Yep, even though I knew the exhaust is pretty much just bolt on, its good to actually physically get under there and see whats going on and such. Same goes for brakes and driveshafts, etc. Was a good weekend
Also good to see that it worked out for both of us the easy way. As I said, if you need a hand with anything like that in the future I am more than happy to drive down for a weekend to help out

Both sets of cams and cam trays are now out of the engine. Was planning to get the heads off, but cant get them. I think I'm missing a bolt or two or something, so came inside to have some lunch
Will tackle the heads this arvo

Waiting to sell my current FTO for cash to get the heads and block sent off for work and a port and polish. Once thats done and as long as tests come back OK then I will be ordering parts for the engine to go back together

Taking it apart was the easy bit so not really a lot of guidance was needed. The only things I wasnt sure about was getting the camshafts out because I thought I would damage them but Vectose taught me how and it wasnt difficult.
Building it back up I will be documenting progress with more photos than I have done so far. Although I think if I do a complete guide on how to rebuild it it would just take way too long considering Ive never done anything like this before and Im still learning myself along the way. Taking pictures of every bolt that I do up and circling them in photoshop and all that crap would probably take ages.

It wouldn't have to be that extensive of a write up.
Just a basic how to.
I mean, show how to fit 1 piston/rod/bearing etc, and we can use our imagination for the rest
Although I wouldnt exactly trust advice from myself
Either way Ill be doing progressive photos and all that kinda stuff from here on in. As ive said plenty of times, anyone can take an engine apart, but putting it back together is the hard bit
