Did not make it as a finalist
All finalists are 21 - 24 year old males, all use snap on tools, all have fathers in the industry
In the pic I have pointed out my portfolio on the judges table. I'm the only one that went to the trouble to put one together, all the others are just entry forms.

Yes I agree. I use SP tools myself, I have spent about $3000 cash on my set so far. Not too bad for an apprentice I reckon
The Snap-On van gets some apprentices into a lot of debt with their salesmanship. Three young apprentices at work are in for over $4000 each, paying it off to Snap-On $50 a week. Snap-On just keeps selling them tools they can't afford and keeps increasing their tabs. The tools are so expensive that they don't end up with many tools for their debts either.
Me and my tools, BTW this pic didn't go in my portfolio

Yea, a few mechanics i know have both said snap on are over-rated, and that their tolls have broken well before some of their others.
Im a Kincrome man myself - and theyre pretty well priced for what they are. Will not be getting a snap on set when it rolls round again next week, like literally every other person at my work bar the one sensible Japanese man (who owns the maddest silvia youve ever seen) - he prefers SP too.

That's funny I use SP Tools as well, but the motorsport range. I find SP Tools just feel better to use.

I've got SP myself too! Got the ~320pc set with my first tools for trade payment and threw in some extra to make up the difference. Have recently spent another $500-600 on some more tools, both SP and others, just building up on what I've got. I know what you mean about the SP's feeling better to use. The angular corners on the Snap-On spanners makes them quite painful when you've got a well-stuck bolt you're trying to undo.
That being said, I am a fan of their range of tools and their attitude regarding replacements. I've seen one of the guys at work break a tool, take it to the snap-on truck and they replaced it under the lifetime warranty without any questions. They have a tool for everything, and charge the premium because of the lifetime warranty. I honestly can't see myself forking out my hard-earned for tools that offer no significant improvement over anything else though.
SP tools have a lifetime replacement warranty as well, you just got to take it back to any SP reseller such as Bursons.
I had trouble with my SP Air rattle gun, it was sent back and repaired 3 times. Apparently I purchased a single hammer gun that wasn't designed for the work I was trying to get it to do, eventually they gave me a free upgrade from a SP-1145A $199 single hammer gun to a SP-1140EX $449 twin hammer gun, go to be happy with that

You have been nominated for an award for the CCGT Excellence in Training Awards from your Host Employer.
The night will on the 2nd November 2012.
The Invitations will be sent in the next couple of weeks.
I am excited and also a bit wary at the same time.
None of the other apprentices at my workplace have received this email.
I have to put together another portfolio.
I hope I'm not wasting my time again.
@Bennoz + Aza, I would like make another request for a commendation

Yep SP Tools I will buy again. I've got all the impact sockets and sh*t and they are nice to use.
I use this at work. They aren't really sold in Australia and whoever sees it in action always comments how good it is and makes things so much easier. When I don't have it at work and have to use the air ratchets it's just a pain and even my boss who has been in the trade for all his life comments on how good it is and how he wants one.
It does about 60-70nm impact so no more sore fingers.
