Re: Fto Roof Rust help please!
So if i don't get rid of the glue first before taking it to a professional will the rust come back later on? How slow is the rust process if i get rid of the glue and decide not to fork out all the cash?
Seems everyone is just living with the rust haha
Its pretty bad though, the crack is going to get bigger and im scared of the rain!

The reason I wouldn't attempt such a thing is because I f**k up most jobs I attempt and struggle to put things back together as good as they originally were...
For instance; I attempted to replace a head gasket on my old car, and obviously didn't do it right because my oil turned to milk, my chambers rusted out, and my exhaust turned to smoke so thick that the police impounded my car

The roof rust guide is pretty straight forward. Not much you can stuff up really. Just take your time and dont try and rush it thats allThe reason I wouldn't attempt such a thing is because I f**k up most jobs I attempt and struggle to put things back together as good as they originally were...
If the glue isnt removed (by you or who you take it to), it doesnt matter how good the rest of the job is, the rust will be back on the surface in no time. If you get rid of the glue, hit it from the inside with a bit of rust neutraliser and a bit of primer, it will definitely slow the process down as there will no longer be a source of moisture held against the roof skin. As to how fast it will get worse, that depends on things such as where you live, if car is garaged or not etc.So if i don't get rid of the glue first before taking it to a professional will the rust come back later on? How slow is the rust process if i get rid of the glue and decide not to fork out all the cash?

Thanks heaps Dstocks! Anyone know a guy that can do this for fairly cheap around Sydney? My mate knows someone near Penrith so ill get a quote from that guy. He reckons around 300-400 max for the job.

Whether its luck or the glue has been fixed previously, but I don't have any signs of roof rust at all, and my sunroof doesn't leak at all. About time something good came from this car

Re: Fto Roof Rust help please!
If you have a facelift model, there is a good chance that you won't be affected.
Some facelift still had the bad glue (rock_it) for one.
Majority facelift seem to be unaffected meanwhile.

Re: Fto Roof Rust help please!
98 GPR, no signs at all of any roof rust, mind you i dont have a sunroof. Still, it has managed to avoid EVERY (literally) known problem with an FTO.
However on the track car they have just sanded back and painted over the little bit of rust (no sunroof) that has appeared where it should with a sunroof
Either way its small enough and wont spread now that ive gotten it so hopefully ive avoided that chapter in the fto's life
