Post by diver705 »

Hello people, new to site :D just bought a gpx cheap in great condition but has no mivec actuation. Its had a diag with the previous owner and been told the lambda/oxygen sensor has gone. Sound like it would give the complaint ive got. Any info would be great, mechanic by trade but know very little about fto's p.s its auto too.

Could it just be that the oxygen sensor is fried?

i know it might be simple but, i had a 'no mivec' moment once,? or so it seemed, when my intake wasnt connected properly at the manifold?(i think thats what u call it) was slightly loose
You have the right to remain silent, anything you do say will be quoted and used against you

I think you need to try and scan codes out of the ECU, it may point you in the right direction. There are a lot of different reasons that stop MIVEC from kicking in, it's like a safety fallback for the ECU to protect the engine. A lot of guys here lately have had no MIVEC due to a bad alternator.
Is your engine light on?
Is the engine rev limiting at 6000RPM?
If you don't have access to a diagnostic scan tool to suit Mitsubishi (MUTII) you can do a manual scan, here is the link for the how to........http://ftoaustralia.com/v3/viewtopic.ph ... 67&start=0
Good Luck

What is the oil level Like?
If low it will stop you from going into mivec.

revs not limited to 6000 rpm revs to 8500rpm, alternator output good, disconnect neg terminal on battery with engine running passed test kept running. If mivec solenoid was stuck, malfunctioning would that cause it. Wheres it located people  manual scan done again no flash codes. presume im doing it right.

I don't believe there is a MIVEC solonoid. MIVEC is controlled by the ECU gathering information through most engine/transmission sensors. MIVEC cams are switched on/off via the oil control valves under the rocker covers.
