Car Compliance

Post by Daniel2019 »

Potentially re-shelling my car due to problems with the frame, etc. Point is, might be getting a shell off ZFL45H1 which has never been complied in Australia.

Does anyone know what steps are involved in having it complied and how much roughly is it going to cost me?

hmmmm im just gonna assume compliance will cost you the 1k give or take..., then u gotta buy shell of zflash and time to do sh*t, why not just find a cheap fto ?? occasionally theres some decent condition ones for about 3/4k?

Im leaving options open mate. At the moment the plan is to change all of the good bits of my FTO into the shell, as long as its in good condition structurally. By the time I have everything done, I'll be able to drop the engine im fixing up into it, manual gearbox, and I'll end up with a car thats *my* fto. Sounds stupid but I dont really want a car where someone else has done all the work for me. Thats assuming I can find somewhere to store it until school is finished and that the frame is in good knick.

Buying a cheap FTO kinda defeats the purpose, because the shell is free ;)

The problem is that the shell may be free, but that is more than outweighed by the cost of the compliance (which is realistically more like 2K) If the shell is free, grab it and pull off anything that is useful, but id be looking at another shell to do the job.

I might have a cheaper option for you. Ill flick you a PM

This might sound stupid, but why bother complying it? surely it would be easier to just swap it over, who is going to know? Is the numbers in the bay hard to get off/on other shell worth more than 2k to comply it etc?

They sometimes check against numbers stamped into the chassis with a UV light. If that happens you are screwed.....

Hmm i guess fair point - but realistically what are the chances that your car will ever even be suspected of having another chassis? To everyone else its just the same old car so they have no real grounds for wanting to inspect it etc doesnt need to pass another roadworthy but yea, probably not worth it then. Im assuming that there is no way around the light?

Lets say you have an accident, and the insurance company assesses your car and finds it's illegal.

Guess what, not only are you in deep sh*t, you're also likely no longer covered 8O

It's illegal. To consider it is simply retarded. End of discussion.

      Yep ^

After speaking to a couple people including dstocks, it seems that i'll be taking a different route so compliance wont be needed

Cant tell you. All I know is for ACT rego it goes up on a hoist behind a curtain (you arent allowed to watch) and they use UV lights on it. Apparently there are numbers from what im told, but have never taken the time to try and find them. And his chassis isnt bent, its riddled with rust (firewall).

Yup. Last guy literally just sanded it back (didnt actually get rid of it) and painted over the top, so all around near the heater core on the firewall is rusted away. I have to say, the prick did a pretty damn good job of hiding it initially, until the paint flaked off about a month ago.

So that leads me to believe that there would be other places of rust, potentially littered all around the chassis, floor, etc. etc. Normally I'd have a go at fixing it but I assume its gonna be f**king everywhere so I think its best to start from scratch.
