Why do I have 2 sets of highbeams?

Post by superezra »

So I was trying to install low-beam HIDs today, and most FTOs have HB4 so that's what i bought. But when I took the bulbs out they were all HB3, both my highbeam and lowbeam were the same thing, so I pretty much wasted money.
I have no lowbeams, both lowbeam/highbeam turn on when i turn on highbeam. Can I get a little help here? Do I need an electrician? Cause I can't buy HB3 HIDs they're highbeam.

The old owner may have put them in due to the projector lenses cutting down the amount of light coming out.

This eBay site lets you buy 35W or 55W HB3

So am I able to convert the lowbeams back to HB4? and put HIDs in? Cause all front lights are connected to Highbeam.

When I turn my low beam on, only low beam lights up. When I turn my high beam on, my low beam and high beam light up. This is normal

When I turn my low beam on, nothing goes on. When I turn my highbeam on, they both go on. So pretty much the only way I can have lowbeams is to turn highbeams on at the same time.

Oh Crap!
Do you have the low beam wires/globe mounts there, not used/connected?
Are your 2 sets of high beams connected/bridged together?

To be honest I don't know right now until I get someone to check it out, I only realised it today when I decided to install HIDs. But i've been using highbeams as headlights ever since I got the car and my lowbeam bulbs are blown so they don't turn on. Both lowbeam and highbeam are HB3, I didn't check before hand and got HB4 HIDs cause that's what standard FTOs have, but not mine.. So my question is can I convert the lowbeam headlights to HB4 from HB3 in order to use my HIDs and if they were converted, why?

Old owner used a high beam bulb in the normal driving beam. Very common for more light but the connector is for a 9006 still.

After getting my car back from the smash repair, My low beam switch turns on the high beams, and my high beam switch then turns on my HID's. So pretty much if i need high beams in a hurry, i.e. skippy is chilling on the road, I do not have any because the HID's take ages to warm up. But then again, i think its the high beam projector being turned on by the low beam switch as they light a lot higher area than the HID's do currently. No bloody clue what has happened. 8O
