Valve bouncing

Hey guys can someone please tell me why my FTO is valve bouncing at 6000 revs I just put in a recondition engine with 50000 k's The engine hasn't been used in 4 months and it is valve bouncing ? Is it because the lifters need wearing in some one help my old engine reved out past red line ??it a mivec btw

Why do you think it's valve bouncing?

If the engine is not fully warmed up it will rev limit at 6100rpm.

I warned it up drove it for 40 min before I even gave it any ?

Quick google search came up with several possible results.

According to FTOIreland, theres a safety mechanism that kicks in when the alternator isnt charging properly (rev limiting).

Make sure oil levels are correct, and try resetting the ECU after youve double checked the oil.

Thanks so hangers change the alternator and check the oil level than reset it and fingers crossed it will not

To avoid changing the alternator for no reason, I'd suggest double checking your oil levels first. Then disconnect the negative battery lead for 20 minutes. If that doesnt work, you may want to start thinking about the alternator, unless anybody else knows what the problem might be.

You keep using the term 'valve bounce'. Rev cutting is not valve bouncing.

Assuming it is rev cutting around 6100rpm, as posted yes it could also be oil levels or the alternator, but rather than just replacing the alternator maybe test it first. You should find instructions for this in the manuals, or drive by any auto elec and ask him to have a quick look.

If valve bouncing is where theres not enough pressure to stop the valve from stopping and sealing on the valve seat, as a quick search has told me, then as Shane implied, it wouldnt be rev limited to 6100rpm I wouldnt think? If it really is valve bouncing then theres a big problem

Thanks heaps shane il do all of the above tomorrow and keep unlisted it rev cuts off every gear and the alternator is the one that came with the new engine so il do everything I suggested then if it's still doing

Shane or Daniel so I replace the alternator with the old one i had in my old engine and reset the computer double checked the oil levels warmed it up for 45 min and took it for a drive and it still cuts off at 6100 rpm ? Please help its totally pissing me off any ideas

Is the engine misfiring/running a bit rough, because ZFL45H1's FTO was limited to 6000rpm and it turned out one of his injectors wasn't plugged in but he had the engine light on too.

Edit: Maybe your engine temp sensor isn't plugged in or isn't working and the ECU thinks that the engine is always cold so it is limiting you to 6000rpm.
I doubt that you have downloaded the electrical manual.......but it is item A-75 (2-B) Engine coolant temperature sensor on page 2-7

The engine is running fine not rough at all everything sounds normal it's running perect and sounds heathly just when I give it past 6000 revs its like it cut off like when u rev it all the way out past red line I've got my mechanic. Working on it as he can't even figure it out only thing he thinks is the sensors are no good in the new engine

Sorry guys I'm new to this and didn't know how to edit the other post just thought if put up this one as its not valve bouncing its engine cut off and from what I can gather its the sensor I need to check which involes pulling apart the top half of the engine a big job indeed

If it's the coolant sensor you don't have to take the top of the engine apart, its on the coolant water pipe............
