Re: FTO wont start
We followed the test in the FTO manual, pin 1 to pin 2 (no continuity) open circuit with no power, connect 1.5V battery - to pin 2 + to pin 3, retest pin 1 to pin 2 now has a (continuity reading 580 on the multi meter) closed circuit.mikeey01nzl wrote: Either way and a point I would start is at the Ignition Coil.....
Sitting on pin 1 should be 12vdc
Sitting on pin 2 should be a good ground
I read this part of circuit as.....
This makes their way to the Ignition coil and pull a transistor to ground, allowing current to pass from pin one to pin two, thus giving hight voltage to the spark.
We also tested resistance between the two spark plug outputs and got 18k ohms, should be range 17 - 25k ohms.
The following tests were performed on all coil packs.
we only tested power coming in on pin 3 from the ECU = 1.5v
Edit: So we should have 12V on pin1, just with ignition on?
Will that be coming through pin3 on the ignition falure sensor?

Re: FTO wont start
Yep I reckon as it shows 12vdc on all the pin 1's.
The grounds can be traced back to.

I've edited my previous post a tad too so it's a little easier for me to understand as well, was kind of double dutch there.

Re: FTO wont start
Connor has gone out I will get him to test this later.
I will assume that if we don't see 12V then work back through the ignition falure sensor and on to the ignition???
Check pin 2 to earth for continuity???
Thanks for your help

Yeah that's the way I'd cut it in half, my very basic approach but still a stake in the ground / point to start.PHIL069 wrote:Connor has gone out I will get him to test this later.![]()

If no 12vdc then why, back up the chain one goes...
Your welcome, sorry it took me so long to post it all up..

Re: FTO wont start
Thanks again.
I was wondering where the 12v would be coming from and to which pin, we only tested the switching wires from the ECU
Edit:Go hard mikeey

Re: FTO wont start
have tested both crank and camshaft sensor,
and both are giving off the correct amount of voltage when cranking, so they are both fine.......
Next test

You 100% all fuses are the same? Check the relays? Doubt its a coil as all are not working.
You sure you are not getting a spark? Instead of removing the coil, leave it in disconnect the lead and put another one on and test it that way.
What happens with the N range light?

Re: FTO wont start
okay, so, stupid me,
the throttle body and ignit5ion failure sensore, got them around the wrong way cause they are the only two plugs in the engine bay that are the same
then it was just a vacuum hose at the back of the plenum chamber which is why it wopuldnt idle,
but its all sorted now
*facepalms self*
once again, so much thanks to Phil069 who has been helping me along the way for approximately 10 weeks since the beginning, and at the end the multiple six hour phones while testing wires haha
thank you so much Phil (: and thank you everybody else that posted their suggestions and tests for us to run to elimate all the problems, and offered their insight, it was all much appreciated

Re: FTO wont start

My version of todays events............
I asked Connor to test crank + cam sensors this morning, all tests came up correct.
We got onto the phone again about lunch time, this time running through tests suggested by Mikeey

The #2 pins on the coil pack plugs had contunuity to earth

The #1 pins on the coil pack plugs had only 5V

Traced back to ignition falure sensor #4 pin, was also showing 5V

When I asked Connor for the wire colours going to the plug he told me 4 different colours than it was supposed to be

Went to my FTO and saw that the plugs were pluged in opposite to what they should have been

Asked Connor to swap the two plugs over and

Back out to my FTO and going over my sensors asking Connor to check what I was seeing............The sensor on the firewall, behind the intake manifold didn't have the vacuum hose connected, connected hose and

@ Connor, it was fun helping you, I will miss our long phone calls

@ Mikeey, thanks for pointing us in the right direction

@ everyone, thanks for your ideas

@ me, thank f**k thats over with

Re: FTO wont start
yes, THANK f**k thats over with, haha
very big dance of joy
feels so good to drive it again,
new things of note,
im guessing my muffler baffles have rusted and been destroyed as my car now sounds like a rally car, and damn its loud, but a good loud (: haha
other notable things, something on the A/C / power steering belt squeeks like crazy, wil;l be investigating if its the belt or a pully, but its only a squeek (:
also, the clutch makes a strange noise, evan when its not engaged, only pushing the pedal in a few mm makes it, sounds like a mechanical gear sound, obviously, its a clutch lol,
will have the mechanic look it out when i have him do my timing belt and water pump next week, have had enough headaches for the time being, he can do it and if it fucks up he pays for it lol,,
also new federal 595RS-R tyres will be put on the front and a wheel alignment during the next couple of weeks,
then slowly but surely making everything look pretty again, after i tidy the house up of all my car stuff haha

Re: FTO wont start
I dont no how u managed to make them reach the opposite plus eg the TPS plug on my loom i doubt would reach the IFS without dragging loom over in a harsh manner haha
but best of luck anyway
