V6 non-mivec air intake

Can anyone help me. I have a non-mivec V6 and i have bigger intake hose to go from the maf to the throttle body. What is the little hose that joins to this on the standard set up? And do i need to join it to the new intake hose i'm putting on or...? Thanks for the help

Hey Bobby, post a photo of what you mean...
But it sounds to me like a drain hose? So if any water gets sucked in it wont go through to your throttle body..

No its for the oil that gets blown out of the engine it goes back into the intake system and back into the engine.

Thats why people get oil catch cans.

I cant upload a photo cause i'm at work but after a little web search i've found that people put tiny air filters on the little hose to block it off instead of drilling a hole into the new air intake hose? I'm hoping this is right anyway...

Yeah you can put a filter on it. I had one there for a number of years without issue.

Ideally, its best piped back into the intake though.

It is actually illegal and defectable if you don't have it plumbed into the intake.

Simply putting a filter here allows hydrocarbon rich blowby to escape which contributes to smog blah blah blah.

On a GPX it's also considered 'metered' air flow as well. The ECU is expecting it.

Technically, modifying any emission control device is illegal without an engineering certificate.

I tried a completely sealed 2 catch can setup and the catch can between the rear rocker cover and the intake pipe caught absolutely no oil. The catch can between the pcv and the lower intake manifold caught some oil but really not enough to justify the effort.

This was using 2 properly designed catch can with baffles rather than blingy ones on an na Fto.

You don't really need a catch-can on an N/A vehicle in my opinion. There's not enough combustion pressure to cause the excessive blow-by that warrants the catch can. Boosted vehicles tend to need them as the extra combustion pressure gets forced past the rings and causes more blow-by than standard. Vehicles being used on track require them from memory, but I'll be damned if I can remember why

So you think i should put a little breather filter over the end of it or drill a hole into the intake tube? Whats the easiest or most common thing people do?

Just put a breather on it bro, its easier, and im sure if you get pulled up your not gonna be defected with a massive fine etc etc, if anything run a little longer tube off it and hide it underneath something?
