Mechanic broke a caliper bolt
Sent my ride in for safety checks and also the following service:
Coolant flush and change
Replace front sway bar bushes
brake pads for all
replace fuel filter
Got a call at 5pm from mechanic that they broke a caliper bolt at the rear left side. So they need to get the broken bit out and order in a new bolt.
I am thinking if both bolts needs to be replaced, due to mechanical stress? e.g. one brand new, one 15years old?
any idea how much will the bolt be?

Re: Mechanic broke a caliper bolt
I'd be asking your mechanic what he used to take it off.
A rubber mallet and 14mm? Wrench is all that's needed.
Dont stress though, they are cheapies off camskill or undoubtedly Dwayne has more than a few spares.

a bolt is a bolt, unless it has to be an exact length for something, SCA or ripco would have them, or any hardware store... just take it and say it broke, they'll get you a new one without shipping and f**k assing around.

Depends what bolt it was, if it's just a mount bolt yes, if it's the slider bolt no, you'll need to get those from Mitsubishi, or Camskill.

Re: Mechanic broke a caliper bolt
So we have learnt that caliper bolts don't like high amounts of torque.
No way in fk do you brake one of those bolts unless you are doing it wrong.
Happened to my folks Valiant years ago where the apprentice put a f**ken rattle gun to the caliper bolt.
I mean really.............. simple stuff.

Re: Mechanic broke a caliper bolt
the bolt stem dosent look like ordinary bolts. have different diameter at some section of it.
and yes, they are not to be highly torqued

Re: Mechanic broke a caliper bolt
Actually, they should be torqued correctly, which is actually 74Nm / 55lb-ft, which is reasonably high for a bolt.
But yeah sounds like the Caliper Guide Pin Bolt, MB618227 for the bottom or MB618228 for the top.

Re: Mechanic broke a caliper bolt
I've seen caliper bolts break! Highly doubt it was your mechanics fault. Most likely some other factor causing it.
