OH sh*t man, that really sucks.
Was in the means of calling you back. I have slept most of the day *currently sleep deprived*

You should be able to buy it back, they do often have the option, but won't say it right out.

Once it's all sorted and they say we will give you 'X' amount, tell them then you want to buy the car back from them, they will pay the diff.

Another one gone :(

What's the current plan?

Heard back from the Hilux owner? If he's the good sort, he may not even claim.
But regardless you'll have to pay the excess...

thanks guys. its really depressing seeing that i am getting a job done soon.

anyway, what is the best way to lodge a claim? never did this before in Aus so any advise will help.

Just Rang NRMA, the car will be towed to smash repair tomorrow. the operator ask if i am lodging the claim myself, or someone else. is the "someone else" a profesional i can hire? and i know i pay the excess for the damage or the other party but my own? the car is only insured for $7000 :(

Sorry to see your FTO in such a bad state Akys, feelin for ya :(
I believe you have to pay the excess on all claims where you are at fault (or can't find the other party), your and/or their car damaged. If it was their fault, and they were insured, then they would pay their excess instead. I had to pay excess when my car was stripped of its sound system, I didn't know who the other party/f**kwits were.
I also believe the someone else would be the other driver, but you should make your claim anyway.
When I had my accident, with NRMA, I phoned them at the scene and made a claim then and there. NRMA organised the tow truck and repairs.

Few things - cant you just take some parts out of it before you get it towed?

Also, how in the f**k did that hilux not even cop a scratch? As said above, hopefully hes an alright bloke and wont claim.. Bit stingy if he did to be honest. Would be better off just paying him to get what little damage there is fixed, if you can get him to accept that.
I fix cars.

A semi side swiped ours.
Replace a door, c pillar cover and leave the small dent in the tray.

They are damn well built those 4x4s!

Damn, that sucks mate. Shows the strength of our vehicles compared to another one.

But to sound like a heartless bastard, means the rest of us just had the value of our remaining FTOs slightly increased. Cheers

FTO's are designed to crush and absorb impacts to save our lives :D

current plan is try to successfully get the claim. then see if i can get the car back. look for another car in the next few months, prob need to buy a very cheap car to drive around first.
the guy in the hilux seems nice, and thats his work ute as well so he'll get back to me after talking to his boss

Sorry to hear about your accident, if NRMA let you buy the car back, ring the RTA first to make sure you can register a written off car, I heard a while back laws had changed to stop these chop shop guys registering written off cars.
My FTO is strickly a track car thats why I went with Shannons.

 update. the car is insured for $6000 only apparently.
they had agree on letting me buy the car back for $500. Wreck is located at Lithgow. but the prob is to get them send it down cost $440

so what do you think guys?
anyone here can help me with tow the car back? i'll hire the trailer and cash your way. I really want the car back.

its a repairable write-off. do you think i can use everything from the legnum halfcut to try to fix it up? Radiator etc. (if the railing is not bend)
or just move on?

I vote do the conversion anyway mate. Alternatively you could buy a GPX shell from a ZFL45H. No interior or anything, but mostly body is in tact somewhat.
I fix cars.
