Post by Technikhaus »

Hey guys,
Does anyone here know how to safely remove the weather strips?
They're pealing really badly on Nick's car and we want to remove them to clean, and then repair 8)

Did you strip it to bare metal?

Nope - did a lazy job and just sprayed over the top.
Still much much better.

The other side is much worse and I will need to sand it a touch to get right.

Ah ok.. The one we're trying to do needs stripping right back, as it has badly flaked :(
Which is the reason we want to take It off. From what I've gathered, its Glued on?

Any ideas how we would put it back on?

There's a rubber strip - (Think that's glued).
Then once that's removed you can then access the 3 or4 screws that are holding it in.

OKAY, SO:

1. Rip the giant gaylord rubber strip off.
2. Un-screw the four gaylord screws.
3. Sand back the gaylord strip.
4. Re-spray the gaylord strip.

IS THIS RIGHT? IF SO, I'M DOING IT.

Gave it an attempt yesterday, turned out all right.
to remove the strips:
1. remove rubber seal
2. remove screws

putting the seal back on wasn't fun....

the paint job itself was ok, we didn't sand it right back to bare metal, so the spots where it had flaked are better than where it still had the original paint.
One day we will redo it, but it will require a lot of sanding...
