Sounds like the tank level is jammed. Bit fiddly, but you can get it out, its under the rear seat, under the black steel cap.

You do however have to undo the fuel pump line from under the car before you can undo the fuel line on top so you can get into the tank.

undo the fuel line on top
And trust me, this is the hard bit. The pipe quite often wants to bend before the nut lets go.

I seem to have a similar problem to this, except that the gauge won't go below 1/4 tank,
When you turn the car off, it will drop right down, so the needle in the gauge isn't stuck...

Have you replaced the dials recently? You may have bumped the needle/not put it back on properly.
    LED ALL the things.

I believe that the previous owner may have.
Should the gauge go to empty when the car is off?

    Ours doesn't.
Stays on how much fuel is in the tank (which I don't think is a good feature)

Damn, was hoping it was just stuck...
So how do I go about checking the thing that reads it... lol
Also, is it a separate meter that warns you of a low tank?

Tip: Don't undo the hose at the top. As Ben suggested, undo the hose under the car, then drop the fuel tank a little and pull it up through.

The dial does seem to be moving, but extremely, unless I am under estimating the fuel efficiency...
How many Ks should I be getting from a tank of 98?
360Kms of Motorway driving was done on Monday, and a few trips into town ~ 30Km each, where should the needle be?
