Was it wet during the race? I mean it's pretty f*cken hard to lose it in an FTO.

You have to remember just how stupid some people are. And that's not limited to Gen Y (although, sadly, we seem to be the most common evidence...) Not to mention that when you DO lose it in an FTO, you're going that little bit quicker than everyone else, so everything becomes harder to control straight away.

Road was dry, but the area has a slight quick rise after a left bend. While at high speed the cars do not get airbourne, the vehicles can get a light feeling and the unexperienced can loose control quite quickly as evident.

I realised one of the disadvantage of FWD is it's really hard to control on high RPMs in which some drivers might struggle to steering and hit to objects on the driveway...

treesw have to be one of the worst things to have near a road, i know so many people that have hit trees,
my father and best mate included, it just goes to show that anything can happen at anytime, whether your prepared for it or not, no matter how much experience u have things can still go wrong,

I've been driving another FWD car when involved in an accident. I didn't brake until the end but only slowed down from 115 to about 80km/h despite being sideways for 200 metres. When your car is going that fast it is hard to control in an emergency, and you don't lose as much speed as you would think.

Its called target fixaction. Motorbike riders notice it a lot more. You look where you want to go (or not). The other day I was riding and i saw a little rock in the middle of the lane. I was over in the left tyre line, yet even though i saw it and was thinking i should stay away from that, i still ran over it...

When I was a motorcycle postie I completed 3 stay upright motorcycle riding courses, thay trained us to avoid obstructions in an instant.

Regardless of if it's a v8 or a tricycle, shouldn't be street racing. I know everyone's done it, especially when they first got their cars / bit younger. Been a few years since I've even thought about it. Occasionally I'll have some wanker trying to race, best ignored.

Ah that makes more sense now. Guys I wasn't really talking about the recovery during an emergency situation. I was more curious about how you would lose it on a straight or only on a minor bend. We all know how much traction the FTO has and the FTO only has a tendency to lose it's rear only when braking really hard.

So given the location above can someone walk through what might have happened from after he hit the crest? And how he may have recovered from the situtation if the car was understeering at the bend? Or was this simply an unavoidable situation? Thoughts?

I'd simply say lack of driver skill...

Red Ps means 1 year or less of driving.
Foot to the floor, hit a slight curvy, back end got twitchy, and he continued to over correct leading it into the pole.

There's also variables such as bald tyres, possible minor tap from the other car during the event, who knows.

Doesn't take much really with a combination of inexperience, not knowing the roads etc to cause something like this.

poor / incorrect wheel alignment could have played a big part also.

Way too many variables to speculate what went wrong, other than too much speed and too little experience, with a little stupid thrown in...

I personally can say I've had an accident (not in an FTO) due to similar circumstance just wasn't street racing. Dirt road at 60km/h and a slight change in the dirt road with soft dirt on top and my lack of experience when the rear slid out; I over-corrected, went off the road, under the fence, over a ditch, got airborne and slammed into the side of a flood plain. Went off the road 2m from a stobby pole and there was a foot wide steel fencing pole 3m the other side. So I'm VERRRRY lucky I missed both..

Unfortunately very few younger drivers have the ability to learn how to correctly get out of these situations until they actually happen
